in Credit cards
After deciding to simplify the number of credit cards I have got, I thought I would share how easy/hard it is!
CapitalOne: Freephone number - got some hard sell about we can good deals etc. In the end managed to close it.
MBNA: Freephone number - just had to press some buttons and hey presto, closed.
egg:- done through secure message on web site
Natwest: - spent nearly ten minutes in a queue (0870) before being transferred to the closures department, they were not really able to offer it and tried to persuade me to keep it as back-up but this dd not work.

Barclaycard: Easy! She did ask if I wanted to do a balance transfer at a "special rate" of 20%, but when I declined she put it through straight awayMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

Post Office: You have to write a letter, and then send it to an address that's not even freepost!0

Shame you closed MBNA without speaking to anyone - you could have got a decent offer.0

I did not have chance - literally it was all automatic. I did notice a missed call soon after from an International Number, maybe it was the heavies to speak to me.
To be honest I am pretty annoyed with them/HBOS as I had an affinity card whih MBNA acquired and then replaced it with a normal card! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I was less fortunate with Capital One last year.
A month after my first telephone request, nothing had happened. Something like 8 weeks had elapsed by the time I received a letter of confirmation. At least it's a Freefone number and C1 deserve credit for that.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
My Capital One has only just shown up as settled. The past few months, it would show up as settled and revert to active the following week.
I closed it last October. First of all I reduced my credit limit down from £8000 to £1000, and when I went to close it I too got the hard sale, yet no offer to stay.0 -
I just closed my Virgin card, no attempt made to keep my custom, within 5 minutes they had removed my online account details.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0

I just closed Virgin, Capital one and Lloydstsb, all via the post and asked for written confirmation, I got it.
Barclays told my husband that he'd have to write in to close it, but hopefully, he'll speak to someone else and they will close it over the phone.
I had an old Barclays student card from years ago, rang to cancel, they say it's cancelled, but around once a year I STILL get statements AND it's on my credit report as open, what can I do!? I phone them 5 times and written twice! Annoying!"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -

I'd put it in writing if I were you, asking them to close it immediately and explain and complain about how its been handled, that should hopefully poke something up their behinds to get them to sort it! Make sure you mention about them updating your details with the CRAs so they address it in the return letter!1st LBM (Pre-Career Change): 01 March 2006 Debt Free Date: 28 April 2008 | Worst Debt: £7244.36
