I need to use WinZip to open a file. The only versions I can find to download are 45 day trial versions.
Is there a free version of WinZip or is there something similar that is free?
I had it years ago on an old pc and didn't pay for it, but this is the first time I've need it on the newer pc.
I was using WinRAR, but that was also just a trial version.

Quickzip and 7zip are very good.0

Thanks, I'll have a look at those.0

winRAR still works after the trial, you just get a pop up everytime you use it asking you to buy itSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

Thanks. I already have winRAR and thought I had to buy it now.
I have downloaded WinZip and I had a couple of files I need to open. Once the WZ trial is up, what do I need to do to make files open with winRAR rather than defaulting to WinZip?0 -
Winrar works fine, so yes, make all compressed files open with that (I could be wrong, but I thought winzip was built into all the operating systems??):idea:0

Yeah, I'm sure Windows systems have a built in file compressor. Otherwise, 7zipSquirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
+1 vote for 7zip its very good0

Yeah, the guys are right, these days there are loads of free file compression utilities.
However, if you're accustomed to the WinZip interface, then you can download an OldVersion. (I believe that 8.1 was the last free, yet fully functional revision?)

J-Zip. Based on 7-Zip but with a Winzip type interface.0

Good shout, Hammy.
I hadn't heard of J-zip. It looks the biz.0
