David Laws - corrupt hypocrite?
Comments

I hope he has the decency/Cameron the sense to sack him quick.
Incidentally, and totally unrelatedly, someone I know who's worked with him says he is an utter !!!!!!! to work with; v opinionated, rude, and further right wing than most Tories.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
A total insult to the gay community too, to blame his dishonesty on being gay - it's got nothing to do with that. He claimed one hell of a lot for a 'second bedroom' in a London flat - for £950/month, you could get a flat, not just a room. He was clearly milking the expenses system -nothing to do with being gay.0 -
Peter Tatchell must be devastated that he never got the chance to out David Laws before the Daily Telegraph did.0

Whilst it is low, I don't think being in a coalition with the Tories is an abomination against nature
I disagree.
Seriously, this is so depressing to me... there goes the £5 I bet on Sir Vince being the first to leave.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

“Anyone who knows David, knows he is someone of great integrity,” one friend said.
Wasn't this the guy making a fuss about Liam Byrne's "there's no money left" note? The irony...0 -
David Laws stole forty grand
From all the people in this land
What did he say?
'It's 'cos I'm gay!'
Well, rent boy you should be hanged
(out to dry)

Paddy Ashdown was interviewed on Sky this morning ranting that the interviewer has no right to suggest Laws has done anything wrong or that the man was his 'partner' as it is up to the Parliament Standards group to decide if they were 'partners' under expenses rules. It sounded desperate and pathetic and will not have helped Laws's case.0

Well, I for one don't care.
He can be a total hypocritical s*d disliked by all. As long as he is successful with the others in reducing our debts that's all I am interested in.
I never believed for one moment that all those politicians had suddenly found 'the light' in a road to damascus moment over expenses. They are still out for what they can get.
Let's look at this another way. He conveniently starts from a position of public loathing. Make no mistake, he will be joined by many of his colleagues in the 'unloved cupboard' over coming months/years. The public rarely like people who take money off them, through taxes or cuts or rent rooms.0 -
Further proof that MPs live in this fantasy land bubble where siphoning approx £900 a month from the taxpayer to rent a single room from your Civil Partner is 'ok'.
And then they're falling over themselves to tell us this guy did nothing wrong???????? Am I missing something? Sounds like yet another case of snouts in the trough to me and again leaving me in no doubt that they've all been at it.
What makes it even more galling is the fact that he's clearly well off but decided that the taxpayer will support his Civil Partner - what a greedy lieing pig.
Whats the point in paying taxes when it's clear those at the top are creaming off the top? They're already up in arms about the new system which, shock horror, asks them to actually provide RECEIPTS and PROOF of expenditure.

I do sympathise with him about "outing" his sexuality, maybe his family are Roman Catholic, he went to school at St Georges College, a private Roman Catholic school.
If he wanted to keep his sexuality private and secret from his friends and family he should have paid the "rent" himself and not claimed it on expenses.
I think if Cameron thinks it is damaging to the coalition, or if there is uproar in Tory ranks he will get rid of him. That's supposing he can find a decent replacement.
An investigation into the expenses of the (millionaire) Chief Secretary to the Treasury, while at the same time the said person is telling us all to tighten our belts won't sit too well, I hope.0 -
If this revelation achieves nothing else, I hope it wipes the sanctimonious smirks off the faces of those who managed to convince themselves that Lib-Dims were essentially any better than either of the other two groups of conniving, lying, meretricious, hypocrites.0
