So he is supposed to stay at his lovers house rent free?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
So he is supposed to stay at his lovers house rent free?
That's up to him, but I understand that the Green Book on Expenses says that people cannot claim against expenses for renting from a partner. He's the one who has said that James is his partner, and he is the one who has said he will repay the money, and he is the one who has resigned.
A very sad thing to have happened.0 -

Considering they are both rumoured to be millionaires in thier own right, to be honest, yes. Laws must be drawing a 60k salary in any case? Not being funyt but given i live in Se11- 900pcm is toppy to say the least fr a room in a shared house.
Better that than being corrupt, surely? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Indeed. Another example of the culture of unbridled greed in Westminster. Which labour minister was it that charge us 8p for a plug? I mean seriously, you earn over £140,000 or something and you stick the poor bloody taxpayer for an 8p plug?Mortgage debt - [STRIKE]£8,811.47 [/STRIKE] Paid off!0 -
In addition, there is the business of Laws' extending his mortgage (presuming that he claimed for the interest portion on expenses), in order to help his partner buy a house.0

Thank goodness he's gone - no way can you have the man in charge of rooting out questionable expenses in public service being someone guilty of this.
The person I know who's worked with him has been !!!!-a-hoop over the resignation - absolutely hated him - words such as 'snide', 'really unpleasant' etc.
He wasn't a 'nice guy' at all; far from it.0 -
I do wish people would stop trying to play the 'gay bashing' card.
Here is a man of unimaginable wealth, to many, who has had every privilege and opportunity going and yet who still felt it acceptable to swindle the public.
His homosexuality has, clearly, not impeded either his business or his political career to date and there is no reason to suggest it played any concrete part in his downfall.
Trying to make excuses for him on the grounds of his sexual preference is both predictable and banal.0 -
Well hardly the best example for "moneysaving" if hes a millionaire in his own right yet chooses to BORROW by extending a mortgage to co buy a house. *confused about moneysaving**
What would martin do :money::beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

And when was this :-
..ever an excuse to defraud the system ?
To be fair on the bloke - it would be as if he were a couple but made a claim to be a single person even though he could actually have got more by claiming as a couple.
He has defrauded the system by possibly not claiming the full amount that he would have been entitled to claim as a couple.
Personally I think that shows a niavete which is inappropriate for Government but it does back up his story about being more concerned about privacy than expense claims.
