hey, just a thought, not sure how it worls with a 0% balance but could you pay the £2400 onto the credit card (so its £2400) in credit and then you can pay the loan in one payment? i did this years and years ago when i only had a £800 credit limit and needed to pay a £850 flight. i was told to just pay the difference as though i was making a normal payment and then my account was £50 in credit and i could pay in one go. might be worth asking if it works out cheaper than the £80.

i totally agree that it is not worth having no life and eating only beans etc... to pay debts off earlier. whilst unfortunately some people do have to that, if you are fortunate enough not to have to do i think it will be so much easier to curb some spending than all of it.

i give myself a weekly allowance in cash and try to only spend that each week. this is more than a lot of people have to live on but much less than what i previously spent! i know if i am too strict i will not be able to cope! :(

i am lucky as i just bought a house 2 weeks ago and mum has guaranteed my mortgage so i was able to do this. with some careful planing i think i should be able to kit out my house from scratch in less than £2k and that is buying new from argos. i want the house to look nice and matching etc.. so i am looking for some second hand stuff eg bedframes, wardrobe etc... that is nice and in good condition but am happy to buy some stuff new by shopping around :)

good luck, you will get there! not sure what your parents situ is but when the time comes there are various deals you may be able to look at for first time buyers with family help like lloyds lending hand mortgage :)

    Hey iwantahome...

Have loved reading and catching up on your current situations.
Like yourself I did have a debt, although mine has now gone, YAY, and the feeling is amazing when you can now set your sights on saving for a place for yourself, and Iam in the process of doing that.

Although just as you mention now and continually every day/week is a challenge, from trying not to buy the latest magazine and having to purchase a new outfit for a party, this sounds all to familiar and I face these problems.... oh gosh, internet shopping does not help me either...

A few little hints that I have in the last few months implemented...

    - My savings account is now with a completely different Bank, so then I can not easily transfer a couple of extra dollars to go shopping and WASTE, also i forget about it and transfer an extra 10 or 15 where i can, and then looking at it each month it is a surprise...
    - Take the money out of the bank, physically having to spend and hand over your money is the worse. especially when you can relate it to how much your making an hour..."that top or shoes just cost 4 hours of work"
    - Also have a money tin at home that you can not open (can opener styled one) and when you get home from nights out or days, put all your change in there.... then set a date to open this and put in savings account, extra little boost....

Look forward to reading about your struggles and also ACHIEVEMENTS for this month, any small amount no matter what it is will help you... Just think of when your in your cute little house, furnished and having friends and family over.... you can do it. keep focused.

Ps. even cut out a picture of a cute little house and put it in your wallet.... inspiration. Check back soon x
