Moving house dilemma - cancel or not to cancel

We are due to move house on 23rd June. I have had a SKY contract for over 12years in my maiden name (never got round to changing it with SKY).
The dilemma is should I try cancelling the contract now and see what they offer me ? We probably want multi-room and HD pack which we could add on if they offer to reduce my monthly charge.
or
Do I cancel the whole thing and just start up again as a new customer (married name & new address) take the cashback offers that are around / refer a friend.
Don't need broadband/phone as I am tied into another 18mths with TalkTalk.
What are the chances of any HD deals coming up again ie. 12months free ? My guess is because of the world cup and the demand is there they won't offer anything.

I saw (online somewhere) that if you signed another 12 months, they'll give you a Sky+ HD box with free HD subs for 6 months, if taken with a multiroom subscription at £10 a month. The only thing is that as you are moving, they will charge you the £60 installation. As a new customer, you could most probably find an offer to not pay that. Call them up and see what they say0

Companies tend to offer good deals to either new customers or old customers who are about to leave. Look at their website to see what offers they would give you as a new customer, and then phone them up and see what they will offer you if you were to remain with them at your new address.
I wouldn't be too worried about them not offering deals because of the world cup... because the football and the olympics are all on freeview so they are always trying to get people to choose them. And with Virgin offering HD for free... they might have wiggle room on the cost of HD.
But go in with some info as to what they would offer you as a new customer... then if they don't match it.. you can become that new customer... and perhaps even get cashback on quidco or whatever.0 -

There are a few posts on here stating that the likes of quidco and other site are taking orders and not giving the cash back0 -
I've just gone through the first year with Sky, though I had it years ago, and it was quite clear to me that new customers were getting a better deal. I questioned HD as well and it was just a new box (currently have Sky+) but having to pay unless the extra. As stated, HD charges may have to go after the World Cup as no-one is making programmes in non HD format anymore. Charging more for HD might become unsustainable and the offers on multi room and so forth seem to back that. Even a year ago HD was free if you took their telephone line.
I would weigh up the offers but yes, be wary about cash back. I much prefer TopCashback than Quidco and have no issues with them but I have not tried Sky through them.
As with insurance these days, all their promotions seem aimed at new customers to the detriment of current ones, a fact that Sam Walton and university studies proved stupid so many years ago, though customer inertia is high.0 -
word of warning though for moving home, sky's home moving department is useless, took my OH 4 phone calls to arrange it and they still cocked it up0

Hi, if you sign up as a new customer you may have to wait up to a couple of months for installation depending on the demand/installers in your area. If you can wait and also have another creditworthy name to sign up with you should be ok.0

Sky dont do credit checks on customers.I recently signed up as a new customer using my middle name at my address as Sky would only do a reconnect & upgrade with my 'real' name even tho I'd been a lapsed customer for over 12 months.0 -
correct: sky dont do credit checks.
also install should be arond 4-7 days not months0 -
Thanks for all your comments.
I have now decided to cancel my existing SKY account and have also taken up a new customer offer which I was able to take advantage of as we are moving house.Free installation, half price subscription, free HD box & half price HD subscription.Born and bred in Manchester (proud of it)

Good for you,
Couple of things to remember.
1-If the new house has Sky already fitted, take a good look at the dish if you can, particulary the brackets at the back.
2-Also the cable from the dish.If the cable goes over the roof, get the installer to replace it.The cable rubs on the roof apex in the wind which weakens it thus allowing water to seep into the cable & run down to the STB.
3-And this is very important!! Stock up on tea & biscuits,Jammy Dodgers ideally but Hob Nobs at a push.:rotfl:0
