  • dont use octagon after finding them on go-compare thought they were to be trusted how wrong was i turns out i have not been insured for some time so at the start my quote annual was 377.00 or there abouts 100 pound i paid deposit in oct 2011 then it was monthly payments then in june 2012 had a letter from them saying i needed to pay 80.00 due to none payment in june so this was paid in june only to find out today that this was a £50 cancelation fee as well as the month in june just looked through my bank statements to find they have had 482.00 off me more than what my annual price was and it was stopped in june so if they would of used the £50 cancelation fee as a monthly payment that would of been the year paid up to date so beware my last payment was used as a cancelation fee not a monthly fee and they were also taking out more than they should each month so if stopped insurance in june and i paid them 482.00 and my annual was 377.00 and the 100.00 deposit sure they owe me money not sure cowboys give back money so everyone beware
  • I find it hilarious that all the people who complain are the idiots that manage to get their insurance cancelled!

Everyone knows how insurance works these day! Buy a policy and send in your NCB immediately, post it or email it as your last insurer would have sent it out on your renewal.

Who doesn't check their monthly direct debits to make sure your insurance is paid!?

Why if your card has declined would you try again and again before checking that it's not been put into a holding account? Banks then take their time requesting the funds back as its no skin off their nose when you get your money back.

After purchasing insurance over the years (and not being an idiot) always request the name of the person you speak to, ask them to post AND email your docs, check them immediately. Confirm what you have to do to ensure your policy stays active!

I've been with octagon since 2010, always had great customer service their staff are friendly and go above and beyond . People annoy me when they make threats that they cannot possibly follow up as they themselves have not done what they should have. Working in the financial services myself I see people making wild threats that will be laughed off by the appropriate bodies as the customers are the ones to blame!

If octagon are so awful why would they have over 1,000,000 customers? I've recommended to family and friends and will continue to be their customer

    You ask "
Why if your card has declined would you try again and again before checking that it's not been put into a holding account? Banks then take their time requesting the funds back as its no skin off their nose when you get your money back."

I have been in the same situation. In the last page of OCTAGON's website when I clicked on submit button I got the page where it said your card has been declined it also said you may have entred card details wrong, go back and enter your details again. Second time it did the same, so I entred the third time and same again. I then checked my bank details and they had already taken full amount for the three transactions. When I called their customer service, they knew that this was a known error. When I asked them if this was a known error why was it not fixed or advertised on their website they had no answer to give. Although I was very polite with them, they were really rude.
So, going back to your comment (calling people idiot), I think you are the only idiot here that uses and yet still supports such a scum company.

Three identical replies to a year old thread. Genius.
  • I have just made a claim with Octagon insurance.
My car got hit by a Morrisons truck in the early hours of the morning.
My car is a 95 toyota but is fully comprehensive insurance 6 years NCB protected. So far my experience has been a nightmare. I opted to pay extra for a courtesy car which I have since found out I do not get until the insurance company assessors come and pick up my car to assess the damage. I have been with octagon for a year and a half. I have provided them with police ref numbers the details of the vehicle that hit my car and CCTV of the whole thing.
As of yet they have called me once and I have done all the chasing. First off I went to the police station to report the accident when I found out who it was and when. The driver at this point was long gone and had not reported the accident. I then called morrisons to see what they are going to do. I then called my insurance with all the details including reference numbers from the police and Morrisons. Morrisons then provided the details of their insurance company along with their reference number for the accident. As of yet I have had to chase Octagon every step of the way. It is now one days later and I have no transport and a letter saying that Octagon have acknowledged my claim and that they want £100 excess up front and they want to take the car. What do I do as I know from friends that when an insurance company take your car you will not see it again and you get offered very little for it?
  • First post, had been looking for anybody with experience of Octagon.

We had some dangerous neighbours, who were living there... illegally. Following a couple of calls to the Police, my car got vandalised - couple of long, deep scratches and all tires stabbed.

I reported it on the morning of January 3rd this year (Friday), along with a Police reference number which I upgraded on the following Monday or Tuesday with a proper crime number. Like Fenrir's experience, I had to do all the chasing (on 0844 numbers!!).

To cut a long story short, most of the chatting has been with the TCF Corportate, whom Octagon use to investigate claims (for fraud, I expect).

On Tuesday 21st, we had our car collected and a (tiny) courtesy car left with us. Nearly a week now, and i've had a text from Octagon to say that their engineers agree with the repair company on cost, so i'm to wait to hear from the repair co.

It looks very much like this claim is going to have taken more than a month in all. Which I don't think is very good.

On top of this, I really should have checked the excess. Voluntary was £200 but there is a £100 compulsory too! I really hope the tyres are replaced like for like, or i'm going to turn green and tear my pants!

By the by, my renewal is about a week away. Had two letter in the past week from Octagon - rather aggressively worded. Just waiting for all work to be completed before I begin negotiating the premium down (or dumping them).

My problem has been resolved but the service has been at best sterile and at worst, poor and staggeringly delayed. I really couldn't recommend these guys.
