Thanks everyone, it's been really helpful hearing your comments and opinions. :T

We have made our decision and it is.... we are going to Cyprus! :cheesy::cheesy: I am now really excited (although trying not to count my chickens...)! We are not going to get married (it just doesn't feel right to rush it), but have got enough time before the posting to save up for moving costs etc. I have also decided to do a Masters degree via distance learning, it's something I've wanted to do for a while and as I probably won't be able to work it seems like a good time to do it. That will keep me occupied and avoid a glaring gap on my CV.

I took the advice of Sarsie's nan to heart (about regretting the things you don't do more than those you do!).
You would have no entitlement to medical or dental treatment through the service facilities.
Thanks BLT, I hadn't thought of this. Luckily I don't have ongoing health issues but I will be looking into getting health insurance... although does anyone know if I can use my E111 health card in Cyprus?

Dhekelia is great - I was there for 2 years - only moved back a year ago. Go back like a shot if I could!

There is a definate social scene for Wives - don't get many girlfriends to be honest due to the cost of renting places out there. Doesn't matter if you've got children specially, although it does help a bit! We had a pool in our back garden - best thing we ever did as it gets VERY hot. Only thing is, I would suggest getting married, or if not then you stay over here with your job until you do get married.
Most cypriots have 2 jobs to make ends meet, so unless you want to work as a waitress (unsocial hours as they socialise a lot to the wee small hours!!), or you speak fluent greek, russian etc then you'd find getting a job very difficult. As someone said, you can get cheapish flights although they often arrive in the middle of the night in our experience. So with young children we used to fly BA (not cheap!). You won't be entitled to use the military flights, and won't be able to use the dentist, doctors, or the Ermes (naafi) shop - which is supposed to be a little bit of home. However you can buy things cheaper in the local shops.

Can recommend some good shops in the Larnaca area for food shopping and theres a great coffee shop over the border in Famagusta, however please do think about how bored you will be sitting in rented accommodation (with possibly no air con in 40 plus degree heat) all day long. The number of books I'd go through a week (even with my two children) was unbelieveable. TV isn't great, but you can use skype if you can get a good internet connection. We did after the initial hitches.

Best of luck - feel free to PM me as I might have photos of DHK and the surrounding area still. x
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

We are facing the same decision at the mo, husband would be posted sept 2011.

I admire your decision not to be rushed into marriage - it wouldnt be the best basis to start a marriage IMO feeling like you 'had' to do it!

What a great idea to do a masters via distance learning! You will have something to keep you occupied when your boyfriend is at work and when he's not you'll have so much to explore together :)

We were out in Cyprus a couple of weeks ago having a look around and met some lovely people who were very happy out there.

We are definitely swinging towards saying 'yes please!' and going for it. Will be different for us as we have 2 little children so will be kept very busy.

My DH is a mad watersports enthusiast and I love diving and am a keen photographer so shouldnt think I'd get bored.

Anyway all the best with the preperation for going, I'm sure the time will fly by...Who knows, maybe we will see you there :)
