iPhone 3GS price drop?
Comments

I don't know if this means anything, but my Natwest Advantage Gold phone insurance cover is going to go up to £1,000 for a replacement handset In June. The policy prides itself on Covering th iPhone at £500. Maybe the 3GSs handset price will drop only £50 but contracts become substancially cheaper as a means of hiding the much lower cost. With new iPhone starting at say £550. 32GB and £650. 80GB.
Just a thought. I might well be entirely wrong.0 -
$97! bargain! i must get my mum to buy some when she goes in a few weeks and then sell them on over here. Even if i need to jailbreak them or something they should make a tidy profit.Back by no demand whatsoever.0

It is not as simple as that! Otherwise Ebay would be flooded with them! When you buy the $97 Iphone , you are also required to purchase a two year AT&T contract. That makes it so much less of the bargain..........0 -
No it didnt the 16gb was dropped but the 8gb 3G remained the same price £350.
I think its more likely the 16gb 3gs will remain at £450 and the new 4G 16gb version will go up to a new £500 starting price.
Those price drops in the US are for contract phones with AT&T on a 24 month contract.
I would say this is absolutely correct, I'd add that as the 3GS will run the exact same software as the forthcoming model Apple will not discount it much, I also think £50 is the most likely with the PAYG version of the 16GB 3GS being £399 and the new model at £499 or £550.
I've seen some info that the odds of even a 64GB model are slim (64GB flash chips are in short supply and expensive) and there isn't enough space for 2 x 32GB chips (like in the iPad).
Bit more info at macrumors
The poster who was hoping for an 80GB version has no chance, the iPod 80GB was HDD not flash.
As the 3G wont run 4.0 properly it will probably disappear altogether shortly after the new model appears.====0 -
I have 50 odd gigs of music, so I leave the house with my iPod classic AND my iPhone which is loaded just with podcasts, tv shows, pics and apps because I don't have the time to sit and pic what I want on it. It's why my 8GB nano now resides in my mums handbag.
I also really want an iPad, I nearly asked for a pre order for my birthday but the memory thing just agrivates me...not until you can have 160+ gig memory in it will the iPad be a netbook/laptop contender IMO. That's just basic.0 -

Remember Apple are also trying not to canabilise there own sales.
If they make an Iphone in 64 or 128GB (has to be binary type numbers for the chip sides really) then they run the risk of impacting Classic iPod sales.
One reason the iPhone has never droped a lot is to make it too cheap so avoiding people buying an iPhone instead of an iPod. Ditto the Ipod Touch, the iPhone is more the touch with a phone. By making the iphone cost as much to buy as a Touch people who just want a ipod buy the touch, people who want large storage buy a classic and both may also buy an iPhone0
