Best CO2 flights offset?

For those who use carbon dioxide offset schemes (to offset the environmental damage done when flying), which ones do you use? I had a look at a few and they vary a lot in price and credibility. www.carbonbalanced.org looks like one of the better ones as that is run by the World Land Trust, supported by the likes of Bill Oddie and Sir David Attenborough. They charge about £7 to offset a return European flight and money goes to rainforest conservation mainly.

I did actually leave a reply to this and it was removed. I know why, because i called this a ridiculous suggestion.

Man made global warming is a myth.

    Prove me wrong.

I'm with you Mr Lahey, Humans pump about 9 gigatons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year, this is a paltry amount compared to the hundreds of gigatons that nature is responsible for.
I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?

Does it really matter who caused it, if we can do something towards resolving/ managing the problem?

(Yes, that was a rhetorical question.)

How do you know that anything has even been caused? How do you know that the 'so called' increases in temperature are not just natural weather changes that have happened since the beginning of time.
(Although wasn't our most recent winter the coldest on record?)

I guess my point is that the world is about 5 billion years old and it has coped pretty well so far without human intervention - Why start trying to play with nature now?

If you want to offset carbon, go to your local garden centre, buy a tree and plant it in your garden, rather than give money to one of the carbon offset businesses.

I am sceptical of many of the carbon offsetting businesses who are in it to make money, but if the World Land Trust (a repectable charity) will use the money to conserve rainforest then I am all for it as it helps to preserve the variety of species on the planet as well as having positive CO2 effects.

As to the wider global warming debate, it is a matter for science not personal opinion. Science tells us the world is getting warmer, science tells us that CO2 trapping warm air in the atmosphere creates a greenhouse effect, and science tells us humankind is emitting more and more CO2. One could argue that science is wrong and it is all some sort of conspiracy, but I don't buy that, sorry.

Nature is in balance though, and the CO2 it emits is naturally absorbed, mainly by the ocean. Suddenly we came along and started burning off all the CO2 that was nicely stored under the earth and it is a whole different story. I think mankind emits around 26 gigatons a year.
