Given the other data, 1MBps sound realistic. VM were basically talking c**blers. Their service is a resold BT Wholesale service and you will get exactly the same speeds as any other provider on your non-LLU exchange.

But if it is genuinly 1Mb, then that'd probably be enough to work from home, no? I wouldn't be downloading movies or anything, just working.

Yes, it would be OK for email and surfing.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Personaly I would cancel the bb and go with a decent provider such as Plusnet (£12.99 on a Market 1 exchange). More chance of getting them to sort it out sooner with Openreach than VM.

What about the phone though? Should I keep that with VM? and just cancel the BB?
I gather from that comment then that VM might have a little more weight with Openreach than they're leading me to believe and it's just easier to make me wait than to hassle Openreach...?

I'd have to connect to the work network using VPN... And access various reports and things. Would it be ok for that too? Been told yes, but since you seem to be a) not lying to me and b) know what you're talking about... :rotfl:

Yes you should be able to access files, obviously uploading/downloading large graphics etc would be very slow.
My suggestion of Plusnet was based on them offering (IMHO) a much better CS than Virgin, and at a lower cost. Can't see the point of going with Virgin unless you can get cable.

Alright. Just phoned VM, and went through the 'I'm gonna leave you unless you make me an offer I can't refuse' line.

Finally ascertained that the "Fault" is that the exchange is at full capacity.

Review for 10/7 is only going to produce results if demand reaches the point where it's worth doing whatever they need to do to increase capacity.

So, anyone know what sort of formula is used to calculate the point at which they increase capacity? Or where I can get the numbers?

    Cheers :o

    Snob.

So the fault isnt a fault but a capacity problem....what you need to find out is if VM either own or rent space from someone other than BT Wholesale and its that equipment that has no spare ports, then another ISP who do use BTW equipment may be able to offer service quicker that VM, or if VM use BTW and its BTW that has the capacity problem then another ISP that doesnt use BTW may offer quicker service, but if BTW is the only provider in the exchange and there isnt any spare BTW ports then it doesnt matter who you use there will be a delay....you have been on the Samknows site, what does it say about which ISP's are available in your exchange....what is the exchange name ?..
By the way Openreach are responsible (own) the infrastructure (cables) from the exchange to your property, and although they can connect/disconnet this network to any service providers equipment in the exchange, they are not responsible for the maintenance/replacement/expansion of it....thats down to the service provider or their agent.
