I make mine in mid October, tightly wrap and store. I have found the best, easiest and least demanding way to cook it is to pop it in the slo-cooker with 1 1/2 pts of boiling water and leave on low for 10-12 hrs. I also use the slo-cooker to re-heat it on the day to reduce the amount of hot plate juggling. After a decade of catering big family do's this year we are going out:j so for once I sharn't bother. lol @ a_t!

And I usually make my Christmas cake on Rememberance Sunday for some reason ... although I'm sure this is considered pretty late.

Advent is the 4 weeks before Christmas. If I remember rightly it's the Sunday before Christmas day and the 3 previous Sundays???

Whatever else you do though - remember the chocolate advent calendar!!!

Advent Sunday is the fourth Sunday before Christmas day. depending on the year it is the last Sunday in Nov or the first in Dec. Stir up Sunday is the Sunday before this although I always think that SS Sunday is too near the big day year to make the pud and allow it to mature.

Thanks both of you. I'd feel that was a little to close to christmas to feed all the booze into it :D

I haven't had time to make them for the last 5 years but with DD2 starting school I can't wait to get back to making them again :D

Hi. When is the best time to make a christmas pudding? Thought I would give it a go this year. Probably not a very sensible idea, but what the hell.
