I've just come accross this topic, as I am in the process of doing exactly the same thing as you. I was advised by someone at Tesco to go to the Post Office with the original, and a copy, of my marriage certificate. The PO will stamp it to make it a certified copy and will charge you approx £7 for the pleasure.
Sadly, you will need to change your name with Tescos at some point... *if* you ever close your account down, and there's still money in that account. They will send you a cheque (in your old name) for the balance. At this point, you will need to change your name and get them to re-issue the cheque in your new name...again...something I'm having to do, but hopefully you can get round this by having the foresight to empty your account in advance of closing it down...!0 -

You won't. If you received a cheque made out to your 'maiden' name, you can still cash it into your current bank account. They have records to show that you've changed your name, so they know that your married name is just an alias.
Even if you changed your bank, a copy of your marriage certificate, presented with the cheque when you bank it would allow you to pay it in to your account. You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
I have a credit card account which i pay in full. If and when i decide to close it i will make sure that my final balance is settled and that i have no money owed, thanks, it still isnt worth the hassle changing the name on it though0
