in Credit cards
I got married and I am going through all my financial details to change my name to my married name. My santander cards are fine as I just sent in photocopies of certificate and a passport. However my Tesco credit card is more tricky. They told me I could send the originals to them which I do not want to do or get them verified. They told me that the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Post Office can verify them. I have been to both of these places can't help me. They did suggest a solicitor but it seems a lot of fuss and expense to change my name.
I am thinking it would be much easier to cancel it. Then reapply with my married name. All my other financial accounts have been straight forward.
what would be the best thing to do
thanks

Sounds like you have been wrongly fobbed off in an RBS branch by someone who didn't know what they were talking about. I suggest you return, and do not take no for an answer this time. Tesco Credit Card is fully administered by RBS, and being helped by being supplied with a properly branch verified photocopies of the new ID documents at an RBS branch as part of their service is surely the way it should be?
Ask them whether their response would be different if it was an RBS credit card. If they say yes, we'd do it then, say well please do it now because for all administrative purposes it IS an RBS credit card0 -
I misread the title of your thread and thought you wanted to change your name to 'Tesco Credit Card'¿Alguien ha visto a mi nave espacial?
Biting is excellent. It's like kissing, only there's a winner.0 -
I found that any bank would verify my wedding certificate - if you photocopy it and take the photocopy with the original to a bank and ask them to verify it. I took 6 copies to my local bank, spoke to the person at the helpdesk (not at the counter service) and she just stamped them all and scribbled a signature
If RBS refused, take your copies somewhere else, you should have better luck

Oh I see so I could go to my halifax bank and get them to verify a few copies that i may have to send to various places.
Tesco first told me that RBS would take the photocopy and send it through their internal mail. RBS helpdesk said they were no longer part of the same bank as Tesco and couldnt help.0 -

The Post Office will verify up to 3 documents for a charge of £7. You will need a main PO though, sub POs don't offer the service.0 -
Also any solicitors office will do it for you, I had to do mine a few years ago sure I got about 10 copies verified for 10 or 15 quid have a ring around.
I would not advise cancelling the card for 2 very good reason, firstly you have a history with them and probably a good profile on your credit records from them and also even though the credit reference agencies "should" easily be able to link your maiden name and your married name, and of course this would be detialed in your application for some reason sometimes it doesnt seem to work well, I had a friend last year that got married excellent credit profiles but as soon as she applied for something in her married name she was declined, seems better to "swap" name on your existing accounts that it will all "organically" update with the dreaded agencies, the last thing you want to chance is a decline especially if you have already cancelled an existing account to do it
Im sure people will come along and say tosh but this did happen to my friend last year, she had a right toll with Experian especially to get them to update and link her names properly..........
Hoep that helps oh and congratulations"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -
i too am trying to change my additional card, girlfriend to now wife.
i was told solicitor or post office only.
i asked if post office charge, lady was not helpful. I said what about other proffesions, doctors, qualified accountants etc. Nope!
seems a right faff0 -
also how do you copy it as it's longer than A4 size?0

You can buy a certified copy of your marriage certificate from the registry office for £3 (or £3.50, can't remember exactly). This is what I did, that way I didn't have to send the original certificate but when someone wanted an original, not a photocopy, they accept the certified copy.0

i gave up bothering with it. It is still in my maiden name, too much hassle. Now I am pregnant I more imortant things to plan. Just wish that tesco had been more helpful, mind you their baby club isnt that great either0
