BT Vision box out of warranty

Hi there,
I have recently had some problems with my BT Vision box, and the warranty has expired.
BT have informed me that a new box will cost me £199.99
But, having a look on their webiste, it seems that new customers can sign up to the service and pay a one off £90 for the box (if they stay with the service for 12 months). So i'm unsure why i'd have to pay over double this.
Have any other MSE users had any luck with getting around the £199.99 charge?
(BT have said they can send out an engineer to look at the boc, but if the problem is 'our end' then we have to pay £117 for the call out visit).
any advice would be great!
Many thanks,
Frankie x

It's £99 to new customers because it subsadised, same as buying a new phone on contract.0

Assuming that you are now OOC, I would call their bluff and tell BT that you can't afford £200 for a new box and so you will have to cancel BT Vision. Then see what they offer you.
This regularly seems to work for people whose Sky boxes have failed. No free lunch, and no free laptop
