My PO has had the new tills for ages, but still issue the COP pads. If I only have 1 or 2 parcels then they will often just give me a receipt from the till, but if I have my usual amount then they prefer me to use a COP from my pad.

The big PO in town also prefers me to use a COP from the pad, and occasionally if I have a lot of parcels will hand me a COP and ask me to stand aside while I fill it in rather than issue single receipts where they have to write in the address/Post code for each.

I use the same method as Soo but I have come across one PO that said they were no longer able to use the COP card. They issued paper receipts as COP for each label but said they were unable to give me anything as proof of posting if I presented items that I had already stamped. I use a different PO now..

I would ask the buyer to wait until the 15 days after posting were up then issue a full refund including postage. It is up to the seller to wait for money back from Royal Mail. I had 2 items received by buyers on the 15th day after posting just before I was about to refund.

15 days is a loooooong time for an 'unreasonable' buyer

in practice, delay as long as possible, but you may find that into the 2nd week they get grumpy and you have to refund anyway

do remember that paypal allows an item not received claim to finish up and complete within 14 days.

ALWAYS use a tracked delivery service when you use paypal

As usual I don't agree with you bleugh that trackable is a necessity on ebay as it is easy enough to refund in cases of loss. However I completely agree that a buyer is unlikely to wait for three weeks (15 working days) for a refund and is likely to go straight for a chargeback.

Both buyers I had waited no problem, this is Royal mail's advice that items are not regarded as lost until after 15 days, most buyers would hopefully respect this information from the Royal Mail.

I always work on my own experiences and I certainly wouldn't wait 3 weeks for a refund. I would probably allow the seller 2 weeks, but start to get twitchy after that.

How many buyers do you think say thay havent received it just to get a free item??

i had one do it to me, all for £2.50 of goods, then he said i hadnt paid enough postage and was trying to get a further £5 out of me, he was then selling them 2 months later, he paid cash and sent me 3-4 really abusive emails per day for 3 weeks saying he hadnt recieved items and it really upset me - ebay of course didnt want to know, i had a COP and emailed him a scanned copy to prove i posted item at the PO and that it would have been weighed and stamped correctly i must admit i never refunded him cuz i felt he was a scammer and ive not had one package so far go missing in over 300 sales (bet one goes missing now  ) but now i only post trackable for my protection and my sanity

Yes, I am a bitter seller. A Seller gets a cert of post to prove sent but no proof from buyer to say not received.
It's generally easier to prove a positive than a negative.
I specify on my listings that I only refund for items lost in the post once thy're officially missing (i.e. after 15 working days), and so long as the seller keeps in touch and explains this, I would think a buyer unreasonable if they insisted on a refund earlier. Of course, we all know eBay is full of unreasonable customers! Luckily, I haven't had any yet who've tried to insist on a refund before an item is even officially missing. I've noticed that most mail order items advertised in magazines etc. say "please allow 28 days for delivery" just in case, even though the goods will normally arrive within a few days.
  • This is annoying when it happens. I had a recorded delivery item go missing for 10 days. Luckily the buyer was one of the calmest I've ever met. It turned up after 2 weeks and he gave me a positive.
Just today I got feedback saying that it took a while for the buyer to get the item (I don't know how I'm responsible for the speed of the Royal Mail) but luckily they left me a positive.
I always inform buyers when the item will be posted and provided the tracking number if there is one.
The tracking numbers seem to stop people claiming they never got things I've found.
