Bounced Cheque

Can anyone please advise as to this - buyer pays by cheque but cheque bounces. Item already sent to buyer. Can you make a claim through ebay for reimbursement if buyer does not send alternative payment. Many thanks:A

Not sure of the correct procedure... but make contact with your buyer first off.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

No, there is no route for getting redress through ebay, all you can do is talk to your buyer and if you can't get a new payment, neg him and go for an NPB claim.

If all fails you could go to the small claims court as you will have the bounced cheque as proof and maybe point out the consequences to your buyer.

    Thanks all.
It wasnt for that much but I find it really frustrating as it clears in your account or so you think and then they take it out again!!
Also, find ebay to be on the side of the buyer a lot more than the seller.
  • As the others suggested, contact the buyer first .

I've had about three bounced cheques but luckily I've been sent replacements and the buyer has always been very embarrassed/apologetic.

I too have had several bounced cheques, One after several weeks. I have been lucky though in that as far as I can remember, all but two reimbursed me within a few days and apologised for the error. The other two were for smaller amounts and again, working from memory as this was a while ago, both buyers were not contactable and were NARU'd quite quickly.

How long would you wait for the cheques to be cleared? I know that this is probably a common question but when I put a cheque in my account the value of that amount is available within hours so that I can draw on it. This does mean that I don't know when it has been cleared so I was wondering how long to give it before sending off an item to a seller.

Lady at A&L said that a bounced cheque could be taken from your account up to 7 to 10 days. So you could have a cleared cheque, post item and then money is taken out of your account few days later. I dont suppose a buyer would wait 10 days for delivery of a parcel!!!

For international cheques and money orders it can be up to 2 months (just in case anyone is going for mega-global sale!)
