are you visiting friends/family- if they live on a street with resident/pay and display parking they are able to get a certain amount of guest parking passes per year which are approx £8 per day

You could look at coming off the M1 junction 4 and parking at Stanmore jubilee line tube car park, which is a short drive away and getting that in. The Jubilee has got a good service this weekend as no planned engineering works ( a lot of the tubes have works this weekend) £1 per day, per car Sat, Sun and bank hols. You can get a ticket from the paypoint (as pay and display) for the 3 days. Get an Oyster card for £3 deposit, which youn get back from the tube sticket office before returning to your car) and top up as required. Kids under 11 travel free (just go in and exit via pushchair and lugguage barrier), kids over this age can get a £2 daily travelcard for all buses and tubes.

Is it safe to leave a car overnight in a tube car park?

An Oyster card is a plastic card that you can load money on to

When you use the tube you swipe it when you enter and leave and it deducts the correct fare (heavily discounted) for whatever journey you have just finished from the balance on it.

When you enter a bus you swipe it and it deducts the flat rate discounted bus fare.

If you don't understand it buy one day travelcards instead - simpler for a one time visitor

Apart from the oyster card, is there something i could buy that u can use on both buses and tubes? ive never done the buses i thought that might be nice as we can probably see things we have never seen, althought it would be hard to know which to catch and where to go. Thanks for everyones help.

Yes - a one day travel card. It's a paper (well card) ticket that will enable you to do just that.
