    You're missing my point. I'm sure you can do all these things on this website, but you can't save it on your computer as a vector graphics file. What if you decide in one or two years time to print some new letterheads, start a marketing campaign or whatever and need a different size logo. Then you rely on this website. They might not exist anymore or the logo disappeared. You couldn't find the one you created after just one day.

    I didn't look at the website, but such a important thing like the company logo belongs on a local PC in a useful format.

    I do get your point but if the OP wants to do it for free, he needs to make use of the web.
    The logo I used is now saved on my computer as a svg file vvvvvvvv.jpg

    by coverting using http://vectormagic.com/home trial.

    All I'm saying really is it can be done for free with a little time and effort.:)

    I have to say, a logo for a business is somethign where one shouldnt scrimp. Its worth spending what you can on it as its going to be an image for your customers etc in your advertising, promotions, letterhead, packaging, website etc; Not all designers will charge you a fortune to make one taylored to your vision, thoughts, ideas etc;
    When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

    Some stationers will make logos quite cheaply in the hope that you'll then order your headed paper from them.

    Proper headed paper looks vastly better than printing out the header yourself and some people actually require proper headed paper as a security measure. Firstly because stationers are careful with who they give the headed paper to and secondly because businesses often keep headed paper controlled (i.e. a letter on headed paper shows it has been authorised and cannot be denied).

    Certainly any professional or agency business I would expect it.

    If you want an image for a website or are doing this all on the cheap a student will crank something out in an hour for £30 or whatever.
  • I would like a hi res image (I guess a pdf or jpeg file) making from a logo that I can supply. It is for use in printing business cards. Any suggestions on what would be the best and most cost effective method to do this please?

    Many thanks!

    But even with a massive monitor, a screengrab is only going to give you a logo of about 2000 pixels wide - which is only about 17cm across @300ppi. Not a lot of good if you want your logo on a poster, or on the side of a van or lorry, or on a billboard. A vector graphic is pretty much infinitely scalable.

    The other problem with using web-based free design solutions is that they assume you are going to use the logo on the web only. It will be an RGB image, probably using an sRGB colourspace (if it uses one at all), neither of which are printable using the standard four colour process. When converted to a CMYK colourspace, the colours may change as the gamuts are different between RGB and CMYK.
    Or you could convert the colour to a spot colour, or colours, but that will incur extra printing costs on every job, as they will then become 5 or more colour jobs.

    If, on the other hand, the company is never going to be successful enough to need any printed stationary, invoices, business cards, magazine advertising, point-of-sale material, banners, or whatever, then a web graphic might just do.
