I managed to get the royal mail to refund £1.50 that they had incorrectly surcharged, but it was hard work. They also sent me 6 stamps as compensation.
But you need to pay it first to get the item, then try to claim it back afterMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

i had this happen to me - a large parcel had no stamp or sticker on and i had to pay for it, i started a claim via royal mail and the seller sent their proof of how much they paid to send it
i got a cheque back in full within a week from royal mail
