If its been sent recorded then the correct postage would have to have been paid because the Post Office would have weighed it themselves.
Start an item not received dispute through PayPal you should then get your money back. Royal mail will return the item to the sender without you having to pay the extra or pay for its return.0 -
do i let them know that theres a card here saying i owe £6.31 p&p ???0

I hope this isnt linked to the new postal rates. Im a bit worried cos I sent a parcel on saturday first class recorded and according to the royal mail website it hasn't been delivered yet. I paid the correct postage at the past rates but perhaps they have weighed the parcel using the new pricing structure and think that too little postage has been paid? I'll leave it a couple more days before I worry too much. If they send the parcel back would I have to pay to send it again?

Items are only subject to the postal charges payable when they are sent, not when they arrive and there s usually a period of grace when charges for underpaid post and packing are not collected.
Anything sent before Monday morning and using the old postage rates will be fine, regardless of when they arrive.

On Monday mornings t.v. a Post Office representative said there would be some leeway for underpriced postage until it all settles down.0

I'd ask the local sorting office about it. Does it say on the card that it's been sent recorded? If so, then the error would be the PO's and not the senders, so if you make enough fuss (politely, of course) they should waive the excess postage charge.0

If you post things at a Post Office now they stick on a sticker, not stamps. That could easily have fallen off. I wouldn't pay the postage; surely the sender should have proof that they paid, and so the Post Office should admit that it was their fault?.0

Just seems like a funny coincidence that OP is being asked to pay the entire postage price + the standard fee of £1. Almost as if there was no postage on the item at all...
We sometimes use slightly grainy, matt plastic packaging at work and it's shocking when you realise how easily self-adhesive stuff peels off. As for stamps...!
Haven't seen anything here confirming that the item was sent recorded. My TV is broken!
