Hi all

Need some advice please

(Thanks for all the help so far)

Ok - Now I have bought a car from a main dealer. Asked whether car had full service history reply "yes"

Car is 58 plate - Registered October 08

Now when I ask for the service book the dealer says he needs to order one for me. So I ask for records printouts from the computer to prove the service history, as I was not entirely happy with this.

He comes back with a service done In January of this year at 3000 ish miles. Probably when the car was traded in for another model.
The 2nd service space has been stamped. I also saw computer print outs.

Ok - So I have driven home, but this is still on my mind. I already discussed my concerns about invalidating the warranty, but have been told its fine.

The warranty book states servicing: interim at 1 year or 20,000. Major after 2 years or 40,000

The warranty page states: Base 1 year or unlimited miles

Now need some advice of where I stand please - I have purchased additional warranty too. This surely points to invalidating the manufacturers warranty and also the additional warranty?

What do you think?

bb69, what the hell are you asking? It seems like a load of c**p.

You have been told by the dealer that the car has a full service history. You then say that you driving the car home invalidates the warranty...why?

Your post makes no sense at all. Why would a trade in at 3000 miles mean that a service had been carried out?

I think that you are not telling us the whole story. I really cannot see why you feel that driving a car home invalidates the warranty.

I dont think there is a need for that comment at all, when I really have a genuine enquiry.

My concern is about the late 1st service performed at 3000 miles 3 months after the recommended manufacturers schedule. Which seems to coincide with the car being traded in (due October 09 performed Jan 10)

I have a stamp in the book on the 2nd service schedule, stamped by the dealer today (with the Jan date) but the 1st box is blank.

My query is whether a service being late by 3 months and having a box blank for the "1st service" would then mean the remaining manufacturers warranty is invalidated, and also any subsequent additional warranties purchased.

Car is two+ years old, has only done 5,400 miles and been serviced twice. Is that correct? If so, I don't think OP has any cause for concern, just need service book / paperwork to show that.

What car? How long is manufacturer's warranty?

What did the dealer say when you asked them these questions before buying the car?

    You didn't did you?

Get them to put in writing now that the warranty is good.

    Hello
Car is under 2 years old
Has been serviced once, but later than schedule.
    Its a new ford fiesta
Manufacturers warranty is 3 years - the schedules have been written as above (1st post)
My extended warranty which I have purchased (to start 2011) states they will allow an additional 1000 miles or 30 days from the recommended service date/mileage (whatever comes sooner) which has been exceeded in this instance date wise (2-3 months)

I found your original post confusing
The 2nd service space has been stamped. I also saw computer print outs.
Your best course of action would be to contact manufacturer and warranty company with your concerns.

Believe it or not I did ask and more than once.

He said there was a full service history, but I was wary when he said he had to order a new service book for me.

I pushed and pushed and asked to see proof from the computer re the servicing or any work done to the car which he said they had as its all computerised.

Whilst he went to source the paperwork I paid and he returned with the book stamped (which he originally said he would give me next week as it was on order?!)

I again asked if this would invalidate the warranty and he replied no.

Yes ok maybe I should not have paid first, but I was told it had a FSH.
I am happy with the car, but don't want the surprise a year later someone telling me the warranty is invalid.

Yes I am new to this, but certainly asked all the relevant questions etc and just wanted opinions, not put downs.

I will discuss with my nearest service centre (who I will use regularly) and see what they say.
