My brother was so addicted to Horlicks that my mum used to buy huge jars of it - wonder what it would be like say mixed with porridge?

I have a recipe at home for a horlicks cake with maltesers on top (think it's Nigella Lawson), but I've never made it - too tempting to eat it all!

I worked in Boots about 22 years ago and I clearly remeber Horlicks tablets but haven't seen them recently either.

PS my brother is getting married soon and we wanted to do a chocolate fountain but balked at the £400 price tag without things to dip in the chocolate. What do you think of the idea of doing a chocolate fondue made with chocolate and cream and having marshmallows and fruit to dip into it - is it asking for chocolately trouble or would you love it at a wedding reception? The chocolate fountains are great but what a lot of money for a gimmick - plus it's very messy. I could borrow several fondue sets and it might be a bit unhygienic but what the hell after a few glasses of vino!!
  • Can you let us in on where you get them imported from... am currently eating spoonfuls from the jar but is not the same....... why have they also got rid of Orange Aero bars, also does anyone remember the malteser advert with the toy which moved around the floor and was blowing a malteser into the .....does it exist and where can I get one. x
ps have wagon wheels shrunk of have our hands grown????
  • I've never tried Horlicks tablets but I do remember in the 1980s having Horlicks chocolate sold in a big bar with an old-fashioned Horlicks advert on the wrapper. It was delicious and I've looked out for it ever since, whilst also looking for a life!
  • I love them too! I told my husband about them but he's never heard of them. And I can't find them anywhere in UK. I grew up with these tablets as weekly treats from my mum when I was in Malaysia.

Last time I went back to Malaysia in 2001, they were still widely available. Both the white and chocolate options. If I go back this summer, I'll get lots and sell to you guys eh?:)
I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!! - but I totally dislike the new Dumbledore (Richard Harris - may you rest in peace...)
  • This is really strange, because last weekend I happened to be in Superdrug, and remembered they sold them years ago, and I had this strange craving for them, but alas couldn't find them anywhere on the shelves.

    :(

I also remember Horlicks tablets - each one beautifully wrapped in waxed paper. The nearest I get to them nowdays are by using Horlicks powder & a spoon. Would it not be a good idea to have a "Nostalgia Forum" where we list the things we miss & perhaps somebody, somewhere, can tell us if & where we can still get them? I am pineing over the loss of Burdells gravy salt - it was great for my roast beef dinner. I also miss the old fashioned Corona fizzy pop bottles which kept the fizz in until the very last drop.
  • Morrisons do a gravy salt in a yellow box (i think its a yellow box  ). its lovely!
  • whilst on the subject of nostagia i can't find Beetop brown sauce anywhere - Morrisons had some last year so bought a job lot and have now run out and they no longer stock it - ive googled, asked jeeves and everything no joy! is it a sign of age that we are hankering afer things past or were things really better then - i dont know but id love a brown sauce sandwich
i'm living in a parallel universe
