It doesn't matter for the caterers as long as you've checked a menu of what they are going to serve, but it might for guests. If I was told to expect high tea I wouldn't eat much before I went, but for afternoon tea I'd make sure I'd a decent lunch before I went.
high tea is normally the same as afternoon tea but with something slightly more substantial like eggs on muffins with it. well it is herelike here

I've been thinking about something like this for a while now as well actually, I would love to have my ceremony at 2pm, cream teas and sandwiches at 4pm and then have a BBQ at around 7.30ish. I just need to find a venue I actually like that will cater for it though... we have been planning to go for the Holiday Inn package but having mulled it over for about a year now I think it actually might be a little over-formal for us to have a big sit down meal, and I cant see how the timings would work for a wedding breakfast unless we married earlier in the day. And then what would we all do all afternoon after the wedding breakfast? Sorry, went off on a tangent there...Mummy to

Ok, so the cream tea thing seems to be turning into a bit of a nightmare. The hotel we went to see yesterday who serve cream teas originally said that we could have exclusive use of one half of the restaurant (the restaurant is split into two parts - one around a corner), and that we could have the cream tea in there as it accommodates 40 people. We looked around and this seemed ideal as there a doors that we could potentially close off so it seems more private. However, we didn't realise that the nearest weekend to us coming back from honeymoon was the easter weekend, which is now becoming problematic. The manager has now said that we can't do the Easter Sunday as they will have things going on, and that we have to change the day. Also, if we want the cream tea between 3-5pm ish (a time we chose because this is when they usually serve afternoon tea at the hotel) we would have to have it in the lounge (people have to walk through this to get to the restaurant and also the residents in the hotel can use it too). This is because the have to get the restaurant set up for the dinners by 5.30pm as people in there will be spending £25 per head. I called OH at work, and he said the he was at work and it wasn't important. It was, as the manager is meant to be calling back sometime today whilst he's still at work, and I needed a decision as to whether we were moving dates etc.
I'm really cross, as it all seemed to be falling into place nicely yesterday, and now it's all gone wrong. We still haven't had an official quote for the price per head either yet.
Been frantically searching the internet to see if there are any other alternatives for a venue, but can't seem to find anyone who does cream teas. Now I see why we wanted to get married abroad in the first place!

oooooh I love the idea of an afternoon tea - cakes, scones, traybakes and sandwiches with the crusts cut off - amaaaaazing! I am on a diet right now and would kill for afternoon tea. My shake, and pineapple lunch just didnt cut it!
High Teas in Scotland are awesome - a main meal (like fish and chips/steak pie/cold meat salad/scampi and chips etc etc) with as much tea/coffee and toast you can eat, and then an array of scones, pancakes, fruit loaf and traybakes/biscuits. I am drooling at the thought! :rotfl:0 -

:jI've just found a different venue as first venue changed their minds about accommodating us in the restaurant area and wanted to charge us £25 per head for afternoon tea.
Just booked a lovely golf club where a friend had her wedding reception a few years ago, and they are charging £7.50 per head! :TEnjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -

My mum went over to the states for a wedding and the bride booked a traditional english tea kind of thing. The went to some olde worldy type place. They served up scones with lemon curd and other such odd non english tea mixed up things. Since the bride moved over here she can lol about what her fellow Americans thought an english tea was.0
