This is why I never get anything delivered to home!!!

Arrrrgh COURIERS!!!!!!!

Our postie is great. If there is stuff that needs a signature or is too big to fit through the letter box, he signs for it, or leaves it in the porch. This is against the Post Office rules, and could probably get him into trouble, but it's a small village, and most folk around here are very appreciative of this.

OH ordered some books from Amazon for her course. Normally when I order anything online I get it delivered to work for the reasons that are soon to become apparent. However, OH cannot do this as her work is not a small company, but a large hospital, so put the delivery address as the house. Amazon despatched this order not with the Royal Mail, but with Home Delivery Network (HDL). They tried to deliver, but as we both work weekdays, there was nobody in. Now the fun starts.

They put a card through our door with a website and/or phone number to ring to arrange re-delivery. The website only give the option to deliver on an alternative day. Not much use as we both work Mon-Fri. So I ring them up last night.

First thing that pi**ed me off is the 0871 number you have to call, which costs me 25p/min from my mobile (the alternatives on saynoto0870 it seems are not answered after 6pm). Then there was 90 seconds of recorded messages followed by a couple of menu options. To be fair to them, it took me less than 3 minutes to actually speak to an operator, which is better than my bank. And so the fun begins.

They will not re-deliver to my office. It is only 8 miles away, but apparently served by a different depot.

They will not leave it in our shed, even though the driver could click the padlock shut and make it secure.

They will redeliver on a day of our choosing in the next week, but that means one of us would have to take a day off work to wait in for it.

Our only option is to collect it from a depot in Stoke, which is a 50 minute drive away. Oh and the deopt closes at 5.30pm, so no chance of making it after work as it takes a lot longer during rush hour .

All of which leaves us with pretty much no way of getting this parcel. Thanks Amazon. Your service was great, the delivery rather less so.

HDNL are terrible in my area. I have drastically reduced the number of things I buy from Amazon because of this.

I've stopped buying from Amazon too because of this. Other couriers allow you to give permission to leave things in a secure place - as I'm out in the sticks no-one ever comes near to pinch stuff anyway - but HDN won't do that, they also leave things in a neighbours cowbarn, without even leaving a card, so I then have to ring round or snoop in everyone's outhouse to find my book. Apparently HDN say they can't find me! If you do a bit of googling, you'll see a million other people with similar problems, I can't understand why a company like Amazon doesn't review its courier contract. Apparently also, they treat their drivers appallingly and give them impossible targets, so no wonder.

No more Amazon for me I'm afraid, which is a pain but the local farmer is fed up with things being left there and I can't ask him any more.

I hope you've both given feedback to Amazon about the delivery problems.

Unless people complain, they'll continue to use a delivery service that, to all accounts, is substandard.

I certainly did, and had quite a bit of discussion with them about it too. Their response was that the chosen courier has proved over time to be efficient, however my complaint has been passed to the transport department. Probably a stock answer. Never heard anything more. The letter said packages are delivered 'at driver desecration' - no idea what that's supposed to mean!!!

We need to be sure we complain to Amazon, whose responsibility it is to sort this, not HDN

Amazon usually use RM for delivery in my area with no problems however my last parcel was delivered by HDN. I came home from work to find my book and dvd box set out lying on the mat with an opened cardboard box beside them :eek::eek:

I tried giving them the element of doubt but there was no way they could have got the intact parcel through the door and in all my years of ordering from Amazon I've never had any of their packaging come to pieces in transit :undecided I would be interested to hear if anyone has though.

I emailed Amazon to let them know that either their packaging was no longer any good or they should investigate their couriers. Apart from an initial apology I've heard nothing since :(

I have to admit my bet is the HDN driver couldn't be arrissed to pop my parcel in the shed or next door with my neighbour (elderly and always in) but I'd like to be proved wrong as the other option is just too :eek::eek:

Wonders if Love Honey uses HDN :o:whistle:

What they really mean is that the courier is cheap, and one of the reasons people use Amazon is because of their free delivery.

Cancel the order and get a full refund (distance selling regulations)

That the courier can't deliver to you is Amazon's problem - and they've just paid the courier to find that out.

HDN are worst carrier I have used. I buy quiet a lot online and rarely do I miss a delivery

The last two occasions I have bought something that has used HDN even though it says its out for delivery is never got delivered that day, only taken back to delivery hub and redelivered following day, I can only assume this is down to them being busy

Yes, when I had a similar situation, and couldn't go to collect it (again Stoke!) Amazon rearranged to send another one by RM - I wish they'd been able to do that in the first place and saved all the hassle. Have you told Amazon about it bap98189?

Possibly next time your OH could arrange for delivery to your place of work?
