I have an old Advent laptop which will only work if the (utterly dead and useless) battery is taken out. If it's left inside, even though on mains power, the laptop will turn itself off after about 20 minutes of use. With the battery out, the laptop will work happily for hours and hours on mains power.
There's just a slight possibility that yours may work in a similar fashion...0 -
I have uninstalled Spybot/avg/adware, and installed Avira.
I have Smart Start Up in the bottom right something to do with Hey Presto, do I need that.
Its all a bit complicated for me so bear with me please, lol. I dont know what to do with the startup programmes or even how to access them.
I also right clicked the My Computer icon for the system details but I couldnt find out what they were.
On a good note, Avira did a scan and there was no virus's which is a miracle I reckon.
As for the battery, it doesnt work, hasnt for as long as I have had the machine. So maybe I shall just take it off.
Thanks for all your help guysHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

It sounds like the fan is working like mad and then it just turns itself off if I try do things like youtube. When the virus scan comes on, it works for about 2 mins and turns itself off too, so I dont think malware scans will complete.
Is this worth trying to fix or not. Luckily I am using another pc so I will just take the Ethernet cable out of this and put it in the laptop.
More than 12 months old? Most likely the heatsink is blocked up with fluff.0
