That's very kind of you - I'll work my way down this massive bottle of violet syrup (70cl) but think of you before I decide to get some extract.

Whereabouts are you? I drive down to Birmingham at least once a month and I have family in Leicestershire too.

If you want to get some I'd be happy to purchase some on your behalf and send it on to you if that makes it easier - just PM me.

I checked where they are and they're in Barnsley! Where I live. So now I either have to find their snail mail address, or a mate here has offered to get some for me on his account.

thank you all for your ideas and research, I love rose and violet creams, jasmine too if I ever lay my hands on them. The cupcakes idea is an excellent one, do you just add it to the icing or the cake mix as well?

You can add violet essence to the cake mix instead of vanilla, if you want (and my recipe included 100g white choc chips too), and/or you can pour violet liqueur over the cooked cupcakes before icing. Both of these are optional. I added 2tbsp violet syrup to the fondant icing sugar (280g) and decided not to add extra food colouring as I liked the colour the syrup produced. HTH. :)
