violet flavourings and decorations wanted

Options
Oh my goodness. We've all changed colour. When did that happen? I've not been gone that long, surely. I only missed one grocery challenge.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could help.

I want to make some violet cup cakes from an old issue of Country Kitchen magazine (not that old, only May 2008), but I don't think I've ever seen some of the ingredients - namely sugarcraft violets, violet liquor (do they mean liqueur?), and violet essence/extract.

I have a Morrison's, an Asda and a Tesco, but I don't know where the nearest Sainsbury is.

Does anyone know if any of the above are likely to sell any of the, erm, above? Or do I need to find a specialist retailer?

Many thanks. :D

I have violet syrup which I use a fair bit for cakes, I make my own crystalised violets. I would love violet extract, so I'll follow with interest. I'm also after jasmine extract ATM...so if anyone knows where I might find that I'd be grateful. Violet syrup I find quite easy to get through up market delicatesans. But its not cheap :( I've never seen it in any supermarket.

Think you will have to go to a specialist cake shop or deli, you could Google it tho!

Thank you. I spent about an hour Googling it, then thought someone here may know. I've also thrown the search across the Atlantic to a cooking friend, and to a catering friend closer to home in the UK.

I think I can get the flowers online, and I have instructions to crystalise my own, but if I can get sugar ones, I'd be happier.

Actually, I've remembered I've seen jars of them in Waitrose before. I bought a jar and they were very good.

Thank you. I'll have to see if I can locate a local Waitrose - maybe it's next to Sainsbury! :)

:) I found them for you on Waitrose on line. :)

They are called ''Fiddes Payne petals violet (36g)'' and are.....£3.19! Now you know the brand is Fiddes Payne maybe you can ontact them and find a local retailer?

So far I found violet flavouring (here). But it's temporarily out of stock. I also found it in Belgium (!) I think, here. There's jasmine here, but it's all in French ... These have the violet extract too, but it's Very Expensive.

Looks like a bit more detective work to find it in the UK ...

Supercook seem to do assorted sugar flowers, but so do Fiddes Payne.

Here's jasmine in the UK. Looks like the same company as the French one, but quite a lot cheaper.
