I apologise then if I've misread this?
Thanks. I was slightly off topic by making an observation about driving on the motorway where traffic is light and come upon some nerd hogging the outside lane.

  • I just go past them on the inside. I cannot be bothered worrying about their moronic attitude.

The point is if plod spent a bit more time booking the middle lane hoggers the problem would be sorted out pretty damn quick.

If they aren't overtaking anything as stated in the highway code then surely they are in the wrong. I frequently drive at the speed limit in L1 and if that means I undertake then so be it (safely of course). How can I be in the wrong when they are in the first instance. Surely Mr Policeman should book them, but sadly that never happens and they clog up the motorways.

Calm down dear. If you find the world a bit much, I believe the moon is rather empty.
Trouble is, you could go to all that empty moon and you'd still find an old codger in your bloody way trying to find the entrance to the garden centre...

It is also not compulsory to indicate when changing to an inside lane of a motorway
I do not believe that it is ever compulsory to indicate.

Yes, I will always indicate when by doing so I can impart useful information to another road user, and yes, indicating is regarded as good practice in many areas of the Highway Code, but I am not aware of any circumstance where there is a legal requirement to indicate.

No you shouldn't over take on motorway but what the op is stating is not undertaking it passing slower moving vehicles which is perfectible ok. If she moved out of lane two to lane one with the intention of undertaking the vehicles then she would be in the wrong so many people on chat so much rubbish.

i undertake all the time recently since the government in there good wisdom restricted minibuses to 62mph and banned them from the outside lane (when they are restricted )its sometimes the only way to get pass people.

  • On a slightly related note, I was travelling down the M1 last week and went to overtake an old BMW going at about 60, a police car then pulled up behind him and put the sirens on and started flashing his light. Eventually the guy caught site of him and pulled into the inside lane, the police car then moved off.

He didn't actually pull the guy over but it was satisfying to watch it, hopefully the old bloke might actually realised what was going on and won't do it again, but I doubt it.
