if it was 8am on a weekdays then maybe not
if it was 8pm on a Friday/Saturday........different question
last friday and saturday we had a BBQ, with loads of family and music, maybe if next door had any viewings we might of put them off2010 challenges

If neighbours are going to cause a nusiance then it doesn't really matter if they are renting or not. I just think it annoys people a lot more that they have to put up with a nusiance while the owner of the property lives somewhere else and doesn't have to put up with it. Somehow people see it that they have to put up with a nusiance neighbour while someone is living elsewhere making money out of it. I have been renting for years and never caused anyone a nusiance while have lived next to owners and renters who have.
The music was on about 8pm on a week night. It wasn't just the music it was also the fact lads dancing around with cans of beer in their hand. Unfortunely this paints a picture littered with coming home late at night from the pub and deciding to carry on with the party. The only reason I mentioned they were renting was because eventually they will most likely move on.0 -
This is so difficult - it's either getting worse or I'm turning more Meldrewistic - but one families idea of peace and quiet varies wildly from another. BBQ pollution, dogs barking, every manner of power tool (can't anybody do anything without an electric motor?) etc etc. The right to peace and quiet is an absolute right, renting or not. But try and complain - even pleasantly. "Your not valuing me as a person" ( end word turned up in an Americanesque robotic type way) Phew!0

Any noise from an adjacent property is intrusive, but you can forgive DIY, hoovering, washing machine as these are intermittent and arguably (in the case of DIY) necessary. Music is a very personal thing and if the occupant is minded to play it 24 hours a day it would very shortly become unbearably stressful.
If it is happening at antisocial hours it indicates a lack of respect for others who may not want it inflicted on them, and possibly means the neighbour is also likely to run car engines at all hours, shout to visitors or family members, slam doors etc. You'll end up a nervous wreck waiting with dread for the next onslaught.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I agree totally with Bogof_Babe. I live in a flat at the moment (though not for too much longer I hope!) and wouldn't dream of listening to music other than through headphones.
If you live in any kind of property where your noise can be heard by others, you should be considerate.
I don't see how anyone can think playing loud music is acceptable at any time of day. Imagine if you got home after a day's work at 7pm, just wanting to relax, and you had that dreadful cacophony infiltrating through the party wall!
Personally, I'd avoid living near people who are only renting if possible too.0 -
Unfortunately nowadays you run the risk of noise nuisance when you move next to ANY property whether rented or private. I own my own terraced property and have privately owned dwellings either side. One nieghbour is as quiet as a mouse but the other neighbour has two daughters in their mid-late teens who in the past used to blast music out every saturday night/sunday morning whilst their mother worked nights as a nurse. But after a few incidents and me bringing to their attention their inconsiderate behaviour it stopped and there have been no problems since.
I get the impression from your original post that you doubt what the present tenant of your prospective dwelling is saying about the tenants next door when they say they have had no problems with them. Have you spoken to the seller to see if they have any previous knowledge of the neighbouring tenants? Has he/she received any complaints from their tenant/friend about the tenants before? I would think they would have to disclose this as a vendor of a property if there had been any major probelms or maybe Im wrong.
I think if there is no further evidence to suggest that these neighbours behave inconsiderately and that this one incident was a one-off then you should still consider renting out your prospective dwelling if you really like it. Again previous advice in this thread about driving past the prospective property at different hours of the day/night may assuage your fears.0 -

you could have just been unlucky, we've had neighbours who were good neighbours but occaisionaly play loud music or have a party or something, but you expect that once in a while when your house is joined to someone elses.
Was it over the weekend when it was sunny? as people do go a bit into party mode at the first signs of some nice weather.
Ultimately if its a rented house next door you have to bear in mind you are taking a risk as you never know who will move in.0
