I went for the Samsung galaxy portal and will have had it 2 week this sunday.

I love it, its my 1st contract phone and granted it is over 24mths, but i got it on a reduced tariff, from £25 down to £20 on 3 network and get 500 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet.

Plenty for me, if not probably more than i need. I was looking at the £10 a mth tariffs as well, but couldn't find a phone i really liked.

Im not one to change phones all that often, in fact as this is my 1st contract phone it also my 1st decent phone having previously had inlaws hand me down phones when they've upgraded.

My husband has just got the samsung portal on an upgrade from 3 for £12 per month 500 min mix/match unlimited internet 24mo contract, handset free . It is a cracking phone and can do almost all that my HTC desire can (or seems too...we have only had the phones a few days)

If you are not after minutes, then you can try with t-mobile on £10 package gives 100 min + 100 text + unlimited internet + free flexible booster + £35 for pulse but if u call retentions they would cutt of £35 charge for the phone , that should make £240 on 24 months contract , and no hassle of cashback..

Hmm, Dext, and it's near twin Backflip (alternate flip design) do sound good as well, especially with 5 MP camera.

The Dext specs does look good on paper compared with other budget Android phones. But when I went to see it in the shop...there was something about the design that bugged me. The top half (screen) seemed smaller than the base, so gave it a tapered look. There was a big gap where the hinge is (right side), not quite sure why it was there as the screen didn't appear to tilt when opened. And the slide mechanism was very loose, like it wasn't fitted correctly. This was the display model though, but I would assume the same would happen on the real thing too. It just seems the design wasn't very well thought out.

If I needed a keyboard, I would choose the LG GW620 (InTouch Max) over the Dext for its better build and design.

Samsung Galaxy is also very favourable, but most only do it on contract, so I didn't really consider it too hard.

I would go via a cashback website...Quidco are doing £80 on pay monthly, so if you're on a £10 tariff then you'll be quids in, if going for the Pulse @ £35, or use the £80 to get a better phone selection on £15pm @ 24mth and choose between Samsung Galaxy or LG GW620 for free. £80 would at least cover the extra £5 difference for 16mths of the 24mth contract. So a better Android phone would really only cost you an extra £40 and you get 300 mins + 300 text + flexible booster.

    Overall cost £15x24-£80 = £280

For an extra £40 I know which one I would go for. Having thought about it, it really doesn't look so bad on contract. I need to review again in a couple of months when my own contracts up. hehehe :)

Wow, that is some deal per month. £10 per month for unlimited internet and texts + 100 mins.

I assume the retentions comment is only for existing t-mobile customers?

    cheers

I should be struck off MSE for this, but I have never really looked into Quidco etc. but £80 back (or £70 after the one off £10 fee) is a nice sweetner on top of a good deal.

Someone posted that you should consider the LG GW620.... avoid!! Its a 1.5 handset and will NEVER get beyond that so it will get left behind very rapidly.

I saw that HTC are bringing out a new budget phone in the next month or so wildfire (http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phone/htc-wildfire ), might be worth having a look into this one

The cheapest I can see that wildfire is 229. An excellent phone but considering there are androids for 99 quid a bit over the budget maybe?
