Orange loyalty discount removed - is this fair?

Hi all. I am a long time lurker and have posted a few times but this is my first "new thread" and I need your collective wisdom! :)

I have been with orange for about 2 years now, 18 months on pay monthly. My contract ended yesterday. I rang retentions a month before my contract was due to expire, i.e. mid april and tried to haggle the price on an HTC desire. As they were having lots of stock issues, I asked if I should just ring back later ie in may and ask again then, when they do have them in stock. At this point I asked several times - will my current line rental discount continue to apply and just become a rolling one month contract (I am paying 25 for a monthly deal worth 40 thanks to some serious bargaining last time)? They said yes.

I just got my latest bill today and found out the discount has not been applied and my line rental alone has shot up to 32 quid! I am furious! But before I unleash my wrath on Orange, I thought I'd ask you guys for some advice? Many thanks in advance!

If you have only been on pay monthly for 18 months and your contract is up, how did you do some 'serious bargaining' with them 'last time'?

He was told his next contract would be 75 pound a month for same mins as his previous tariff didnt exist anymore. i went on mse phone check page. we found that 02 did the phone he wanted with 3,000 mins for 45 pound a month. he told orange this, they came back with2,400 mins, unlimited txt, 45 min email a day all for 27pound a month he was well chuffed gave me a big kiss lol...

t's standard that you'd lose it as the discount is only valid for the length of the contract.

However, if a staff member told you otherwise then you may have power to bargain, the issue is proving that someone told you this. You could tell them when the call was made.

I've had similar issues - someone telling me things that weren't true and me running a bill up because of it. I got all of my money back.

Because before the 18 month contract started, I was on a Sim-only plan with orange for about 12 months. They really wanted me to commit to an 18 month contract (and I needed a new phone anyway), so I quoted a deal by another network I was considering. They offered to just match the price, so I said I will only sign up if they beat the price, hence why I got a plan worth 40 pounds a month for 25.

Thanks, I think you're right, and I have no idea how I will prove they told me this. I've never had a problem with them before, so never thought to get it confirmed in writing or record the call - should have known better! :(

I'm going to try to ring them today and see what they say. They may just play nice? Or maybe I'm an optimist! :rotfl:

Haha yeah, erm you can simply try telling them.
You're telling the truth and they've believed me in the past when I've had no recorded evidence.
  • Got through this morning and sorted it out. Luckily, they believed me and immediately applied a credit to the account, but have to wait until next bill to see if it actually happens. One can but hope! :D

OH asked me why I didn't ask for some goodwill gesture (cheeky!). Methinks he should be a forum member! :rotfl:

Thanks for all your help, guys! :T
