Looking back on this thread - if you did decide to do a file, you could print out some of the advice posts so you can highlight or cross off when done, etc. Also print out the moral boosters to look at when you need your spirits liftedMiggy

This sounds like an appalling situation to be in.
The trouble is,that even if you had the money to litigate,he may well sidestep the judgement by declaring himself bankrupt.
Options...
Litigate>see if you can find a nowin no fee solicitor who will take it on or a sympathetic reduced fee/pro bono solicitor. A website as suggested below might publicise your dilemma and harness support.
Issue proceedings yourself and represent yourself in court. The courts will be sympathetic to your situation and give you some leeway. I suspect this comes under tort law..I'd have to go read.
Develop your own website, potentially with a URL which has the builder name/company in the address, and detail all that has happened complete with photos.
Have an MSE "tidy the place up and support JohnnyJet" soiree round at yours where those MSE'er who are reasonably local can come, tidy up a bit/do whatever/lend support
Name this person here so that others do not suffer a similar fate
If litigating...and you should...only publish FACTS and TRUTHS publicly or via this forum. No supposition, speculation, threats, slander etc..
Hawks and doves...you are a dove at present,be a hawk.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Hi JJ & friends,
Johnnyjet...you have some amazingly kind and caring people here. Your problems won't be solved overnight but we are all here to offer whatever help, advice, support and encouragement we can along the way.
Remember that you are not to blame and people do care about you and your family. Take care of each other and we're here for you when you need someone to turn to yourself!

Have you tried Shelter for advice on the housing situation? Also the local council should have a duty of care to house you all- although I don't really know how this works.
Another thought - it might be worth looking for MumofTwins thread as she nearly found herself homeless with her twins - there might be some good advice on there.
Where is the country are you?

Don't ever think that being ripped off like this makes you an unfit parent... and keep talking, bottling things up is destructive.0 -
BBC DIY SOS has your application and will look at it again if they are given another series. But take the advice given to me, and don't rely on such possibilities to sort things out. It's just luck. In the meantime you need to ensure that you and your family are safe and as comfortable as possible.
Someone suggested that a bunch of people could be willing to come down for a couple of days and help you get the place in some sort of order. If you would like this to happen, say so here and let's see who we can rustle up. It's a bandage, not a plaster cast, but it might help you at this time. I'll do whatever I can, for one.0 -
You can count me in too!
No use to you with electrics or plumbing I'm afraid but a willing grafter! Capable of plasterboarding walls even though I can't help with plastering, at least useful for clearing and preparing things ready for the pros!
Not available next week but can work things out this end and make myself available when needed! (just a few days warning needed!;))
Hope you're well, please post soon & let us know how you're doing!

I'm happy to help too, although it depends on the hours and days you want people as I work shifts. Willing to do what I can though (nothing technically skilled but a bit of graft is ok!)
