Wow Johnny!
You came across really well and that structural engineers relate really says it all.
Well done for all you own work - i am guessing that a lot of what we saw at the end (like ceiling and floors) was your handiwork?
Rock on.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hi JJ
Managed to watch the show last night on catch up. What an awful mess you got left withThe house looks so much better now and you & Mrs JJ seemed to come across really well.
Sorry that it looks as though you will have no comeback on the original builder. They really should not be allowed to leave people in the position you were and then just cease trading to get away with it. This country seems to have gone health and safety mad and yet a builder can get away with leaving a property in that state  Madness
Keep on keeping on, you will get there in the end.

Thanks, glad I did it. I wanted people to see what actually happened and mostly it did that, apart from not showing the video that I gave them showing the actual mess the house was left in on the day work stopped and the letters that we got sent.
I did as much work as I was able to do but I did have to bring in a little skilled help along the way, for example, the electrics as that had to be signed off. From now on I am doing absolutely everything and it's great to feel in control again.0 -

Don't think I have mentioned it before but my wife did an excellent job finding the cheapest prices for everything and getting the little details right.
I feel that the council let us down by not spotting the faults that our two surveyors did, if they had done then we wouldn't have give the builder all the money we did.0 -
Just thought that I would mention that my son is spending his first night in his newly decorated room tonight. :j0

Oh, that's lovely!
I am half way through your programme and am going to watch the rest despite the 'spoilers'! Seeing the house on film really brought home to me what a huge amount you had to contend with. I do wish your so-called builder could be made to make good in some way, though. Perhaps builders should have to live in the houses they work on until some higher authority signs it off as perfect? Or not, because then you'd have to get them out again!
A better wish would be for a builders' association similar to ABTA for Travel companies. If one let you down, the others would get you back where you should be.
I hope your son loves his new room!Miggy

He does love it, he made his bed and went to bed early, tucked himself in and was asleep before I could read him a story.
Maybe the builder should be forced to give up his home for us until he has finished ours, or better still, just give us his house as compensation and let him live the way we have had to over the last year. Or may he would like to give up his shiny new car!!! Ooh hope I don't sound too angry.0 -
Aww, good! It's all coming together. Not a good year, obviously, but it's come right.
For both of us actually.
Good old television...0 -

Yes things are gradually improving, so much more to do but I will get there. Nice to see you have a date for the show, I'm looking forward to it, surprised it was a long way after mine.
Did your builder have a ltd company? as mine has and so far I can't do anything about it.0
