HTC Desire Battery life

Install spare parts. - An app that allows you to see battery usage.
Have a look at what it says is using the battery the most to see if there is something obvious.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Maxtweenie you don't need to download any such thing as HTC has provided that stuff already. Even I had downloaded quite a few toggles and other such apps but some were buggy and sometimes didn't work, un installed all of them after finding out about the HTC widgets and toggles. The HTC ones work fine always and are not buggy and some take less space on the screen.
The following is what someone else advised and works fine for me. I have installed the power control widget bar which controls 5 features and also extra toggles by the 2nd method for airplane mode and mobile network mode. I also have downloaded a widget for the ring on/off as I couldn't find the HTC one.
"To install the Power Control widget, make sure you have a bit of spare room on one of your home screens, then press the + button at the bottom. Select “Widget”, then “Power Control”. This will install a widget one bar thick, containing on/off switches for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Sync Refresh and Brightness all in one. The only problem with it is it doesn’t have 3G on/off which would have been more useful than Sync Refresh. However there is another way – which I use.
Make sure you have enough space on a screen for four icons. Press the + button, choose “Widget” then “Settings”. You should now have five options. Each one creates one icon on the screen with an on/off toggle.
1) Airplane Mode. This disables the phone from making and receiving calls.
2) Bluetooth. Toggles Bluetooth on and off.
3) GPS. Toggles GPS on and off.
4) Mobile Network. Toggles your 3G connection on and off. You only really need this on if you are out of range of your Wi-Fi hotspot / own router or you need to connect to My3.
5) Wi-Fi. Toggles Wi-Fi on and off."bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
I get about 2 days usage out of a charge of my Nexus One phone and it is essentially the same build as a Desire.
The OverClock widget available from the Market significantly increases battery life if set up correctly.0 -

What's this widget about? Doesn't overlooking make the processor work faster and use more power and generate more heat? I thought it would decrease battery life.
How do you correctly set this up to improve battery life?
Are you actually using the overclock app to really underclock the processor during sleep cycle so that battery drains less when in sleep cycle?
I guess you have rooted your phone. Doesn't that void your warranty? Overclocking can cause heat damage and warranty wouldn't cover it I guess. This would be an issue for nexus users like yourself because Google does not have phone helpline for non usa users.
I guess the froyo update removes some advantages of rooting anyway.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
You can modulate the processor with greater precision and reduce battery life.
However I have checked the market and this feature is only available on a Rooted phone.
Having now rooted my N1 and having superuser functionality there is so much more I can do with it.
WiFi tethering being one using Barnacle from the Market. This has been very useful.
Rooting also opened up the coloured trackball. Alas the ball is locked to white light only "out of the box" and blue when connected to a bluetooth instrument.
You can actually have any RGB combination using Trackball Alert from the Market.
For example my trackball flashes purple when I have a text, orange for an email and red for an alert, green for an MSN message and yellow for an MMS. It glows a turquoise for "breathe" and flashes blue for an incoming call and missed call.
Another useful feature is the partitioning of the memory card. I have a 32GB card now and now I have Rooted I can install apps to SD and also make the phone recognise part of the SD card as its own memory. Plus I have tons of space for pics and music.
From my experience the benefits of rooting (an easy process for the N1 and Desire) far outstrip not doing it. I have now Rooted my friend's Desire and it is amazingly fast and powerful. He is now enjoying the benefits of increased battery life and WiFi tethering to his and his other half's laptops. No need to have a USB dongle.
Edit - Just checked my battery life and it is on 48% and this is about 1.5 days since charging. Today I made lots of calls and also used the web and a bit of WiFi tethering. Phone internal temperature currently 22.6c battery output 3806mV. Processor idling at 245MHz. It's just ticking over.0 -

The desire natively allows WiFi tethering in the settings, no need for rooting for that. There are apps available on CNET for tethering without rooting. I have not tried it but know the tethering option is there on the desire by WiFi even without rooting. Not sure about Bluetooth tethering natively but apps are free on CNET website.
The desire also has exchange features that synchronized the calendar as well unlike the nexus.
The froyo update available online for nexus allows tethering and saving apps to SD card.
So most of the things you did can be done with froyo update without voiding warranty. I don't know if trackball colours can be changed with froyo update.bubblesmoney :hello:0
