Can I transfer a mobile phone contract to my son?
Hi, sorry this is wordy, hope someone can help.
I've had a mobile phone contract with Orange for a few years. This phone and contract is solely used by my son. He is now 18 and I would like him to take responsibility for his own mobile phone account (to build his credit record and to rid me of his overspend!) - ideally I would like to transfer the contract to him. The contract is due for renewal within the next 2 months, and he is receiving many calls from Orange pushing for an upgrade (which he obviously cannot accept).
Is it possible to transfer a mobile phone account like this? He would like to keep his number and also the magic numbers, and the contract seems reasonable.
Thanks

Orange allow a 'customer account transfer', to move the acc into another name.
Call CS and go through to billing. Explain what you want to do and have your som with you as he'll have to confirm his info. As long as he can pass the credit check they'll do the transfer. This 'might' start a new 18/24 month contract, but I don't know what the current rules are, it would be good to check with them.0 -
Thanks - I'll do this (and then the liability for overspend is his!!!!!!!):T0

Might be worth asking if he'd lose his loyalty bonus aswell, you may be better off upgrading then transferring the contract if thats the case0

You need to upgrade before doing a customer account transfer as you will lose any loyalty bonuses. If you did, your son would need to wait three months to get a payment history for loyalty.0

Thanks for these comments - especially the need to upgrade first (I wouldn't have known to do this)
I love this forum - so many helpful people :A0 -
