  • Bilbao, I'm sure you're meaning! ;-)

We're driving from Aberdeen to Dover, then using LD LINES to get to Boulogne Sur Mer before driving on to Barcelona (Stopping south France somewhere).

I've been advised to go via Rouen (A16 and then A28) to avoid Paris, avoiding hours of delays. Once past Rouen, follow signs to Evreux and Dreux (A13 east) the J19 to Evreux/Chatres, join A10 north of Orleans, then on southwards to destination!

The price does go up - I saved £130 on Bilbao to Portsmouth (one way) by booking as soon as the crossing was available.

    Hi

We are taking our caravan to the Ardeche in approx 6 weeks  and friends are taking their tent, 10 of us altogether. We are leaving home around 3am as 3hrs approx to tunnel then getting an earlyish crossing and driving as far as Dijon. Hoping to stay on the municipal camp site 1 night then only about 4- 5 hours drive the next day. I know you are going to a different area but .....

We used our Tesco vouchers and for both outgoing and incoming paid a total of £4 for the car and caravan (total price was £224 - our friends paid half this as no tin tent)

Ferry prices were a lot more.
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!

Return trip with LD Lines Dover - Boulogne Sur Mer = £75!! :j

we used to get an afternoon ferry - arriving in France between 8 - 10pm and then get a Formule1 cheap hotel for the night, after driving for an hour or so to get away from the port. They are usually about £30 for 3 people inc breakfast.

Just watch out for those french police you get lured into a false sense of security then I got fined over 1000 euros for speeding and they are very disrespecful telegraph.co.uk/ motoring/road-safety/3190922/Dont-mess-with-the-French-police.html

hi, would it not work out cheaper or not much different to fly, and then pick a car up, if you really want to have a car.

With small children i cant think of nothing worse then all shut up in the car for hours and hours, you could fly and pick up car at the airport, and lot less stressfull, then driving all that way.

Unless you travel at stupid times (rush hours etc) getting around Paris need not be that bad. From the north go clockwise under the runway at CDG airport and follow the signs for Marne-la-Vallee (you can look at the map youself to find the exact route) but you just keep following that sign until you pass it. All motorway and all toll-free. For the Med coast in the very south follow Clermont Ferrand and then the FREE A75 down to the med (the viaduct at Millau has a toll of about 7 Euro but well worth it.)
