Maldives in September?

We are starting to plan our honeymoon for September next year and have fallen in love with the idea of going to the maldives. We've found a brilliant looking hotel with excellent reviews within out budget. The only thing I am worried about is the weather. I know September is in 'rainy' season... is it likely to rain all the time? Will it make any difference as it will still be warm? Advice much appareciated from anyone who has been around September time.
Many Thanks

We did 2 weeks in August and the second week the rains arrived. Yes it was warm rain but after 5 days it got slightly boring and we almost didn't get off the island because the winds were so strong the sea plane had trouble.
Personally for me, who doesn't dive or sail 2 weeks in the Maldives was a week too long. In hindsight I wish we had done a week there and maybe a week or 5 days in somewhere like Dubai.0 -

Could be fantastic BUT it could be rather wet (although warm). I would not risk it for a honeymoon.....too unpredictable.0

Hi Toothfairy!
I've got goosebumps just thinking about the Maldives!!
It is the most AMAZING place ever! DH and I went at start of October, and had no rain at all. WE stayed at Olhuveli, which is brillinat, on a half board basis. We had the romantic couples massage, I also had several beauty treatments, we had wine with our meal each night (It was about $3.50 a glass, and Beer $5, which is the SAME as you would pay here, so we found that fine) and our bill was $400 for the 9 nights. Which we thought was very good. We didn't buy lunch very much as we were so full from breakfast!
We did a snorkelling safari, wwhich was a once in a lifetime thing. Amazing reefs with beautiful fish. We spent our days lazily swimming in the sea/or either of the pools, and reading loads and loads of books. I would say for a couple in love, who want to relax, read, spend romantic time together, the maldives ticks all the boxes. There is generally some evening entertainment, discos, bands, local dancers, crab racing etc.
I would recommend you fly Sri Lankan airways, and do a few nights in Sri Lanka, as this is also a great place to visit.
Wow! Wish I was going!

PS Kuredu is great as well and all incl. I know 2 couples that went and its relatively lively.0 -
we went in april and it was amazing, it only rained once or twice but i really wouldn't recommend it if there's a chance it will rain often, everything is outside I think you'd get really bored stuck in your hut or at the bar
we stayed at kuredu and meeru and both were great (one week in each, made a nice change)Yes Your Dukeiness0 -
Apparently September is coming towards the end of the rainy season, and it usually only rains a few times a day for ten or 20 mins. Really torn as would love to go there.0

We've been lucky enough to go twice - once in January, which was amazing weather, no rain at all and brilliant sunshine all day every day - and once in July for our Honeymoon. July is slap bang in the middle of the rainy season, but despite that we only had a few spells of rain. The rain there isn't like it is here though, firstly it's warm and secondly when it rains it doesn't rain all day only for 10 minutes and then it's fine again and dries up really quickly!
If you've got your heart set on it then go for it! It is very unlikely that the rain will spoil your honeymoon especially in September and it really is the most amazing place.0 -
Thanks littleme! Can i ask if you or anyone else have any recommendations on where to stay?0

No problem! Hope it helps you make a decision!
We stayed on Kuredu in 2005, before they updated all of the accomodation so can't comment on what they are like now, but they were lovely before. We stayed in a beach bungalow for a week (which were VERY basic at the time, but still right on the beach) and a beach villa for the second week which was gorgeous. We really liked it there - there was lots to do and it was very activity orientated if you wanted a bit of action, but fine if you didn't! It was all inclusive for everyone so no carrying cards or cash, had a lovely spa, a few a la carte restaurants if you wanted to pay for something a little more special, lots of nice day trips you can go on and a nice pool. It's not a very coupley resort though and there were quite a few families. http://www.kuredu.com/
For our honeymoon we stayed at the Taj Exotica, which was quite a bit more pricey but a lot more secluded. Not many British people and you can literally have your own little stretch of beach where you can sit and not see anyone for ages, plus we stayed in our water villa as it had a private sundeck. Food was more a la carte and therefore pricey but very tasty, although we went half board and had snacks in our room (and they deliver little handmade goodies to your room every so often!) - breakfast on the beach was amazing though! There is a gorgeous infinity pool and a nice spa, but not a lot else to be honest so good if you like diving, snorkelling or sunbathing. The bar was mainly empty as was the games room and library, but they did offer a few excursions so maybe that's where everyone was?! I think that Kuredu was more 'us', but Taj Exotica was nice for a week's honeymoon. One downside though is that because it's so close to Male, you don't need to go on a seaplane transfer... which is a massive highlight to your trip if you go to Kuredu or somewhere further afield! http://www.tajhotels.com/Luxury/TAJ%20EXOTICA%20RESORT%20&%20SPA,MALDIVES/default.htm
Good luck deciding! It's not really a chore is it!0 -
I went in September and it rained every day but 3 for 2 weeks - aand when I say rain I mean tropical storms and high winds - It was still warm but the rain got tedious, and I wouldn't go again in the rainy season!0
