I'd say Sky have run a broadband company, since they bought EasyNet last year for £2-300mn... and I would imagine that they would be using the EasyNet network since they own it

True, they bought EasyNet........But Sky are going to run this service using their own business plan/methods. This is an unknown at the moment. What's their policy on contention ratios? Are they considering any form of shaping? What are their customer service like? You have to remember that Sky will be planning for a lot more customers than EasyNet ever had.

The coverage of the EasyNet network only covers around 37% of exchanges at the moment. What about the service for the 63% that cant get onto this yet?

There are too many unknowns yet to be able to judge how this Sky broadband service is going to perform. For anyone wanting reliability, it makes sense to see how Sky are going to perform before jumping in.

Trouble with SKY is that the service we've had with the TV has been quite poor. But I guess that is more down to the quality of the product and installation than the actual company. So I don't know if I would trust them with my BB.
But I will give ZEN a look.

You should be able to get the BSkyB money down a bit - other discussion threads will help with that.

    Hi calx,

Have you considered telewest/ntl? I found broadband through BT fairly flakey (3-4 failures a year). Each time it was pretty much donw to me to hassle both BT and the broadband supplier as to whos fault it was.

Telewest is soely responsible (no go between). They are much much more reliable too!

When you ask for a MAC. You do not cancel the service. The MAC is valid for 30 days, and only comes into play if you use it. If you don't, nothing will change with your service.

Using a MAC normally means that you will be offline during the switch of companies for less than an hour. This is the only amount of time you will be without broadband.

I thought it worked as Rex says above but when I Mac'd out of Pipex recently their email stated:
Once a Mac code has been issued, your Pipex Broadband will automatically be ceased in 30 days. So if you would like to change your mind and stay with Pipex, please reply to this e-mail (stay@Pipex.net) within 25 days so we can cancel your migration request and keep your Pipex Broadband service active.
So it might be worth checking with your own ISP. Having said that, well over 30days after my MAC number was sent I can still log on to Pipex, view bills, send emails etc. Hoff course - maybe the Pipex mind is willing but the organisation is very, very weak!!

Who should i speak to at BT? Presumably the 150 people wouldn't have the authority to negotiate?
