my grandmother is going away and will be away when her bill is due, she always pays the bill the day it arrives but as ashe will be away she wants to work out what she has used so far and pay that before she goes (told her to hang on but she wont)
I cant get my head around how it all works, so hope someone can help
she has m3 gas meter and has used 367 units, she pays 25.76p daily fixed rate and 2.7p a unit. last bill was 90 days ago so thats £23.19 in daily charges - but whats the cost of her gas usage?
For electric she has used 3855 units (yes 3855 according to her last bill, estimated) she pays a daily rate of 15.89p and 7.97p a unit for electric. Its been 90 days since her last bill so thats £14.30 but what is her elec useage bill?
sorry to sound thick and thanks in advance, i really dont get it my oh deals with our energy..

367 x 2.7p = £9.91
3855 x 7.97 = £30.72
plus daily chargesBern :j0 -

Hi thanks for replying, but are you sure?? Only reason i ask is when i rang her supplier this afternoon i was told it isnt simple to calculate and she should await her bill...surely if it was just a case of multiplying units by costs plus daily charges they would tell me so??
Historically (last year and year before) her bills have been £900 for all gas and elec so i cant see it being sub £40 plus daily rates? hope for her sake it is, but doubt it0 -

£307.24 for elec+ daily charge£23.19
£9.91 for gas + daily charge£14.30
total =£354.64
if all your numbers are correct it is just a case of multiplicationEveryday the sunshine’s is a good day0 -
oh ok thank you.
The readings were taken from the meter and we simply subtracted the meter read from her last bill and that left us with 367 gas and 3855 for elec.
When i called the supplier for her they were saying about having to use calorific content and volume correction values in order to get the costs....and it wasnt a simple matter of multiplying, but it seems it is!
hence why i askedseems its very easy to work out after all
cheers0 -

Sorry, i have just re-read my post and she pays 2.7 per KWH not per unit... i think this maybe where i am getting mixed up here? she has used 367 units according to her m3 meter. as i say her bills are usually 900 for both so i am getting this wrong somewhere
same goes for the elec, its per KWH
If she would just give the bloody supplier the readings and wait the bill it would be easy, but she says she wont sleep knowing she owes the energy supplier money!
I am no use to her as i deal with everything but gas and elec in my home0 -
Gas :367 X 1.02264 X 40(ish) / 3.6 = 4170 kWh X 2.7p = £112.59 + daily charges. Easy way for gas reading conversion is to multiply the meter read by about 11.3 to get rough kWh. The calorific value (the 40(ish) figure) varies so will not be an exact figure.
Electric is very high, that is my annual usage, are you sure the readings are correct.
So from your figures
gas = 112.59 + 14.30 = 126.89
elect = 307.24 + 23.19 = 330.43 = £457.32 total :eek:0 -
You need to convert her usage from m3 to kWh. An approximate way to do this is to multiply by 11.3. I'm sure someone will post the exact calculations for you soon0

yes, her electric reading is 100% correct. She houses an animal shelter for a charity that is using soley electricity in the winter months - so she is expecting around £500 elec bill.0
