volume issues on sky+ HD box

I have recently received my install for my new sky+ HD box but I am having a problem with the volume. to be able to hear what I am watching, I need to put the TV volume up a considerable amount. When I then switch to analogue TV, the volume is very loud and I need to put it down.
basically, the volume that is being transmitted out of the HD box is very poor. I have a standard sky box in another room as part of my multiroom subscription and am not having any of these problems with this whatsoever.
I thought the problem was with my old philips tv, but I have just go a brand new sony bravia TV and am still having the same problems.
Has anyone else had the same problems and any advice on whether I can do anything about this?

Sounds silly I know, but are the scart cables pushed all the way home on both the TV and the box. If it isnt rammed fully home then the pins may not connect properly causing audio and/or visual problems.

Turn off your box at the mains, hold down the backup button on top of the box and switch it back on, this will force it to upgrade the EPG (to 9.something or other) which is supposed to have an effect on the volume issue.
Also it adds ITV HD into the HD channels list.0
