Im doing things very different to everyone here...Im having a cot for upstairs and downstairs, im having a travel cot.
The way I see it, travel cot will have a much longer shelf life, and will be needed at some point...plus doubles up as playpen when older!0 -
We went straight for a crib as i heard babies outgrow moses baskets quickly.
At birth she was 9lbs 11ozs so im glad i got a crib.
Mine was £40 from ebay, and my nan got the bedding for me. I got a new mattress £14 from mamas and papas.0 -
if you have the moses basket i'd just stick with thast and put it in the cot when it outgrows it. you can take the basket up and downstairs for the night time and day.0

I used a carrycot/cotbed for my 1st, a rocking crib/cotbed for my 2nd, and a Moses basket/cotbed for my 3rd. To be honest, I found the crib and the Moses basket pretty similar.I think they all went into the big cot at 3-4 months so it really depends on the size of your baby and how much space you have.A moses basket is more portable though and if you are worried about the baby climbing out you could place it on the floor.0

If you're trying to save money then dont buy your friend's crib if you have already bought a Moses Basket. I'm not sure why your friend would think the crib is safer (I used to own a baby shop and I've never heard that before)
The use you'll get from a Moses basket depends on the baby. DS lasted 2 weeks in his Moses then went straight to cot as he was a restless baby. DD lasted 5 months so we definitely got our use from it

I did get a moses basket and a cot, but both of my babies never used them! They just felt happier and safer sleeping next to their mum. Every time I tried to but them in the cot they just cried
To be honest it was easier having them in with us as I didn't have to get out of bed to see to them so more sleep for everyone
They've always enjoyed bed time and now sleep happily in their own room. Co-sleeping is not for everyone, but it's wonderful snuggling up to them and having them close.
Many parents end up with their babies in bed with them, it is completely normal outside of the western world. Just make sure you know how to do it safely just in case you find your baby doesn't like their moses basket or potential crib or cot and wants to be next to you.0 -
Empty your bottom drawer and place some blankets & baby in there !!
Seriously though - save your money - they are used for only a short time and your pram & cot will do the job just fine.
Good luck.0 -
Used a swinging crib for all my 3 - it was fantastic. We had it right next to our bed.
When they woke in the night, after the feed and change, we put them straight back in the crib and rocked them back to sleep. If they woke again, we didn't pick them up, just softly reassured them and rocked them to sleep again.
They slept through the night at 9 weeks, 10 weeks and 5 weeks.0 -
We put our son straight into his cot the first night. He looked tiny in a big cot but I was concerned too much moving about in different sleep areas may disrupt him. He sleeps absolutely fine in his cot and at 4 months old is moving from bottom to top banging arms and legs and poking limbs out of the sides so I'm glad he has the extra space to avoid as many collisions as possible!
If I have another one there's no way I'll bother with a moses basket or crib, just because I can't see what we would have gained from them (there was space to have a cot right next to our bed so no issues with closeness as some people do have). He didn't seem bothered by having too much space around him at all. Guess it depends on their personality.
Each to ones own!0
