Post Office Credit Card - Nightmare Application

Afraid I am one more person who's had some issues with the application process.
At first was told an immediate decision couldn't be made and they'd be in touch.
Then a decline letter 5 days later. I appealed as I have very good credit history.
Then a letter to say needed more information - certified copy of my passport / payslip / bank statements / other proof of identity (letter referenced anti-money laundering).
Spent half a day going to 4 different post offices trying to find one that could certify the copy ( turns out 3 of them should have been able to do it -but only 1 agreed they could - got charged £7 for the privilege)
Next letter from PO saying the certified copy was not properly certified and to try again - so had to visit branch again, was also told I shouldn't have paid the £7 as it was supporting a PO CC application, but didn't know how it could be refunded.
Time will tell what happens next and whether I'll get the card or not. I did ask them was it worth getting all the documentation back to them ie: do I have a chance if the info I send checks out - or whether they're just going through the motions of handling an appeal - but they were unable to comment.
... and after all of that ... they declined me, again - no reason given
What really irritates me is that the info they requested to support the application - all of it was fine. So why ask for it - if it had no bearing on their decision making process.
Credit score of 999 / ability to prove address for 8+ yrs / payslip proving income / banks statements showing positive balance & more money in than out ! What more did they want. Complete waste of time.
Only reason I wanted card was for holiday and commission free transactions whilst abroad. Thanks Post Office.:mad:0 -

Do you have any other credit cards? If so, what is the combined credit limit?
I used to work for the post office and we were told that if people had a lot of cards, with a high combined credit limit (whether it was full or empty) then they would consider that a risk and customers COULD be declined.Have I slept through Christmas & the New year?0 -

No, I had 3 cards which I cleared in full and closed in February (£6k). Just 1 card now with £2k limit but with no outstanding balance.
The additional requested info though was not to do with confirming anything around current balances on cards - was more to do with confirming my identity (copy of passport & recent bill) + payslip and recent bank statements (all of which proved income and no overdraft/overspending)0 -
Well almost a month has gone past - I submitted 2 appeals due to the decline and through the door this morning I am in receipt of my pin number for their credit card !
Just in time for holiday in 3 weeks time so I am a happy bunny !0 -

I wouldn't touch the Post Office for any kind of financial product. The products themselves may be fine but you unfortunately have to deal with the self-appointed Commissars at the counters. My latest tangle with them was over getting mail addressed to a deceased person re-directed. I filled in the voluminous form properly, produced death certificate as required and 2 forms of ID for myself. Bossy Madam asked for ID for the deceased. I said what better ID for a dead person than a death certificate? 'Hasn't got his address on it'. Me - 'Well he died in hospital'. Her - 'They usually die at home'. Me 'Well this one didn't and if he'd been run over by a bus it would have said the middle of a road somewhere'. Her (with pained expression and tone of voice) - 'Well because it's Royal Mail and not us I'll put it through and they'll be in touch with you for ID'. 2 days later Royal Mail acknowledgement arrived and re-direction is now operating. My friend went to the same branch to withdraw money from his Post Office Card Account. Madam Commissar gave him the money then scrutinised his account details and said 'There's (amount) still in here. You need a savings account as well. I'll set one up for you'.0

To finish off this application:
The main issue for PO was that my name in the passport (Joerg Markus) didnt match the name in the application (Markus). Though every other bank accepted just Markus. (see posts below)
Anyway, lots of hazzle, sent everything in and got the card, obviously after my holiday and guess what...
They did spell my name wrong....
After all the hazzle, 3 copies of my passport, invoices and other documents... I couldnt belive it.
I called up and a lady said she couldnt do anything until I get my 6 Digit Telephoen Pin. I hung up and thought thats not true... Called again and spoke to a guy and basicly told him: Either you change my name, sent out a new card or close the account...
Took him only 2 minutes and received my card last week...
29.04. - mid of July... ... Royal Mail..... :rotfl:0 -
I applied for a card too, got the usual 'we will let you know' online decision, then got a pack through asking for all the documents etc.
Had the same hassle getting the documents certified but finally managed it.
They wanted a copy of my payslip- my payslips are online, I phoned up and they confirmed that it would be fine.
I then got a letter saying that the payslip wasn't either an original or a certified copy. So I requested a payslip from HR, sent a certified copy in.
Then they wrote to me 2 weeks later to tell me my bank statement was out of date (it was from May) so I rang up, went through all the hassle etc- and they said it was fine, I'd been approved and my card and pin would be on its way.
Then I got another letter telling me my payslip wasn't an original or certified copy...followed by another letter saying my bank statement was out of date....
Then I got the card in the post last week....
interesting way of doing things! I wonder if I will get some more letters about my payslip and bank statment?Debt free as of 2 October 2009
Mortgage free as of 27 March 20240
