Hi
Ive been unfortunate enough to have a number of pets(dogs and cats) put to sleep but can tell you I would rather they had died at home than at the vets.Every time I took one to the vets I felt as if I was letting them down by doing this.I always stayed with them while the vet did his job. This can be quite distressing to the pet as they have to find a vein and sometime have to shave an area, the look on the poor dog/cat's face is someone I will never forget and then the walk away from the vet with the empty carrier is not something to relish.
One of the pets died at home,he was old but it was still sudden,he had enjoyed the left overs of a Sunday roast a few hours earlier but a few hours later died in my arms and knowing that he hadnt suffered and died peacefully in his home was a lot less distressing for the whole family. So dont beat yourself up you havnt let the pet down at all0 -

You would be asking the same question if you had taken her Saturday to be put to sleep. Was it too soon? Should i have given her a bit longer?
Not one of us has the gift of hindsight. What is importamt is not, should i have taken her to the vets one day sooner, but did i give her the best life for 15 years, and extend her life by several of those years.
And you KNOW the answer to that. But love of our animals always makes us question these things and it shows you care.It is part of grieving.0 -

Well said Froglet.
With Orbit,I did'nt & emotionally could'nt face having him pts.As long as he had life left in him,I wanted him to live it to the full.In the end,the night before he died I made the painfull decision to you know.He I think sensed that & went in his own time.
This is Orbit when we stopped in Millisle after he had been diagnosed.
And in bed..0 -
I think that if she'd been in pain she'd have let you know, she'd have been restless, or maybe noisy. It sounds to me like she just passed peacefully in her sleep, secure and content knowing you were nearby.
She was beautiful, I'm very sorry for your loss

You did NOT let her down. Don't doubt yourself
**hugs** I think it is much better for them to pass at home when it is possible.
