Dear Sunnysue
Tinker went to sleep in her own home where she was happy and didn't wake up again ( or lets hope she woke up in a different life - cats are old souls, they carry on) - thats the best way to go. And Emptypockets is right - they seem to know when its time and they go when they are ready - my mum lost a wonderful cat a couple of years ago - she was old and frail but not really ill until her last day and she left us 14 years to the day she came to us.
I am so sorry you have lost her - the picture is wonderful - clearly not only a lovely cat but a character. You didn't let her down, you did everything you could, be sad, but don't blame yourself.
Much love and sympathy

Thank you all so much. Your replies make me feel a little better. I do think it would have stressed Tinker out if I'd had to take her to the vets. She so hated that place. She was soft at home with me. But when at the vets she was a different cat. She hissed and spat so much. She was so bad that after she came round from her last operation the nurse called me and asked what her temperament was like at home. She was hissing so much they thought she was in pain. I will miss her so much. I have another cat called Ebony, who is the same age as Tinker. I think she is missing her too as she woke me up at 6.30 this morning yowling. A big hug to all of you that have also lost pets.0

She certainly was a character. That pic was taken while I was in the bath. She spent most of the time in the bathroom with me when I was in there.0 -
Bless you OP and little Tinker too. What a dear little face :A
I think it's human nature to feel like this when you love an animal very much and they die in such sad circumstances. It's because you care so much. I had a similar experience with my cat and everybody said I did nothing wrong and she was well loved and had a happy life etc etc, but we can't help our feelings.
Give yourself a hug and some tlc and some time to grieve for Tinker. Best wishes to you. xxLove the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
Did you let her down? Absolutely, definitely, positively NOT.
You gave her 15 years of love and comfort, ensuring she received the best of care following advice from professionals.
It was simply Tinker's time. Taking her to the vets on saturday probably wouldn't have changed a thing, other than distressing Tinker and possibly giving you a warning that it wouldn't be long now.
If you had had that warning, you may have been better prepared for Sunday as it wouldn't have been quite such a shock but you would still feel guilt - it's part of the grieving process and completely natural. You will get through this and come out the other side when you can remember Tinker without it hurting and smile as you remember the antics she no doubt got up to.0 -
I agree 1000% with all of the above! Tinker looks like a loverly puss & was well loved. The fact you are doubting yourself shows that! I was the same when Orbit went last September.

Let Tinker be remembered for the good times, the love & affection you gave & recieved. She is in your heart & will never go away.
My mate Orbit and all the other Bridge Babies will take good care of her.

Id say you definately 100% didnt let her down. She passed away in familar surroundings and more than likely in her sleep (by what youve said.)
Much better for Tinker this way than the stress of going to the vets, especially if she didnt like it their anyways.
Its normal to have "what ifs" at a time like this, but i certainly dont think you let her down.
Big hugs.0 -
no words of wisdom ...everyone has said same thing because it's true- you did not let her down at all!
I am so sorry for your loss and sending you big hugs

I though you all might like to see my other lil lady. This is Ebony. Or Ebby as I call her. Ebby hasn't left my side since Tinker died. It's hard to even post messages as Ebby tramples all over my laptop. Bless her. She's a great comfort to me. Guess we have to help each other get through it.0
