Thank you for the kind words!
All of us who go to the Tuesday morning session that I go to can quote you bad experiences in the past. In fact, the very first time I went, I was asked 'did you ever have a near-drowning experience in the past?' Yes I did, but although many people over the years have tried to teach me to swim, no one has ever asked that question before. It's very relevant, because the moment I let go of the side of the pool I had the same feeling of 'going to drown' - it all came back to me so clearly. I think I've got over that now.
One of the ladies who goes couldn't even stand having a shower, the water on her face used to freak her out.
A friend of mine, who used to be a strong swimmer, says she couldn't dream of going to the pool because of what she looks like in a cozzie. She goes to Slimmers World, and I've tried to persuade her to go to 50+ aqua-aerobics. There are women there who would make 2 of me, but it doesn't seem to bother them at all. No one notices what they look like once they're in the water. There's even one man who goes - one!!
The beauty of this little pool is that it's all one depth, 1.1 metre, no deep end/shallow end, so it's ideal for learning, and no worries about getting out of your depth.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

But that was when you were younger ! You're older now and your outlook on many things will have matured and changed. Give it a go. Instructors are very, very bad at letting people drown - so they don't.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I go swimming with both daughters every week and everyone usually sedately climbs down the ladder into the water but last week I thought to heck with it and dived right on in as I used to do when I was younger... it felt great and its not something you 'forget' how to do... I shall be 'diving' in every week from now on...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Yes, it's free in the neighbouring local authority area. I've tried going there. Unfortunately it was even more scary. DH went and he said the water was 'turbulent', which it is. He used to be a strong swimmer - before all the knee replacements - but he couldn't cope with it either. So, I've gone back to SwimmingTales, which isn't free, but I can cope with it. I went last Friday afternoon to the adults' open session and it was very quiet, great for me to practice. I did 4 or 5 lengths back-stroke and practised all the other things we do in our lessons.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
