avg updates stopped working ???

last few days when i go onto "check for updates" for my avg 7 free version it appears to do the dial up gets as far as the "update file download " page ... says "opening connection " but then instead of the normal procedure f the download wizzing through .. i get a " connection failed ,check internet connections" note.

everything else working fine on the machine.
any ideas ??

Nothing for it but to keep trying; sometimes the update server is a little slow to reply, but it should work eventually. It's likely just very busy. There are doubtless a lot of people using AVG Free.

Including me.


Addendum:
Aha! It seems that AVG Free connects to free.grisoft.com to check for updates, then downloads them from either https://www.grisoft.com or https://www.grisoft.cz.
Since downloading updates seems quicker than ever (since the change from version 6 to 7), I can only conclude that the problem stems from having all traffic routed to free.grisoft.com first.

Maybe it's a sneaky way to get people to pay for the 'proper' version, eh?

I've been experiencing the same on both of my pc's,so it appears to be a problem with AVG 7

I had that problem before xmas.
I then tried to reinstall it, couldn't get to completely uninstall.

So i scrapped that and now use McAfee.

I've had to manually update for the past week or so, the auto update just won't work.

It is a server problem,just too much traffic,try to update"off peak"

Mine's been working fine.

It's set to check between 4 and 6 am

Yes i get this sometimes even on broadband - it is possible to manually download updates but usually later it's 'OK..

Before upgrading to version 7 does the old version 6 need to be uninstalled?

I seem to remember avg 7 saying it was converting all my version 6 files to version 7 so I must have left it on.

Whenever I install avg, I usually have to restart my computer two or three times before it's running smoothly
