Situation: My brother has finally left home and moved into a rented flat, but no landline phone. My mum calls him quite a bit, but obviously can only contact him via his mobile. Both my mum and brother are pay-as-you go. My mum is spending a lot of money calling him on his mobile from her landline and has asked me to help.
Ideally looking to get them both on the same network, probably best on something like a SIM only deal (30 day contract) with a couple of basic handsets. The other option is looking at something like Vodafone stop the clock, but my brother works shifts so many evenings is out so daytime calls would be better.
I've done a bit of research but there are far more knowledgeable people on here. Can anybody help?

If you get 1 or 2 SIM only deals from VF and then add 'family' to one of the numbers at a cost of £5 per month. If one of them already has a VF PAYG phone thats OK. The person with Family can then add 3 other VF numbers to their Family and the 4 members of the Family get free calls between the 4 numbersIT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Was going to say the same, you just disconnect after an hour and call again. I hardly use any mins except for friends and family0

Cheers Spiro,
Are these anytime calls? Is there a minimum contract length for the £5/month? Sorry being lazy, I will also go and have a look at the Vodafone website...
Sounds like a couple of cheap handsets and a couple of VF SIM cards would do the trick nicely."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
Orange SIM Only contracts as far as I know include a magic number, where you can nominate one other person on Orange and you get unlimited calls to them.
Seems perfect for your situation and your family can get varying price plans according to their usage in terms of texts/minutes to anyone else.
Alternatively if you or a few other family members wanted to get in on the act, for a an additional £7.50 on top of SIM only deals (possibly pay as you go, not too sure) you can get an extended family bolt on, where the owner of the bolt on can nominate 5 people on O2, and all of them get unlimited calls texts etc to each other.
So check out Vodafone Family / Orange Magic Number / O2 Extended Family.0 -
