The other day I was in Boots buying some girl things and as I was in the queue waiting to pay, I noticed on the bottom shelf of the rack opposite me had the same items with a notice saying £1 - I dithered for about a second then scooted out of the queue to pick up some more and then re-joined the queue. Okay I spent more money there and then, but in the long run I saved money by stocking up on things I'll use each month. And was it worth the extra time spent queueing up again? Well yes, I was on my lunchbreak
Oh Martin, you should've used the 30% voucher off Gap items that you had on your website a while ago!!
I was wonderfing if someone would pick up my lack of use of that. I had it printed ready to go but had one of thos periods where there isn't a second to do anything and got there a day too lateMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Ooh I didn't realise that - oops! Doesn't stop people trying to buy them from people leaving Victoria tube station though, just to sell them on, right in front of the ticket offices!

There is a Wetherspoons free coffee voucher in their marketing paper that expires this weekend and I've been trying to give them away at work to people who I know walk past - no one has used one yet, despite the fact they all drink coffee! So I've been getting two on the way to work and giving them away. I will help people save money even if they don't want my help!
I did that recently with an all-day bus pass, I'd finished using it by about 12 in the afternoon so when I got off I offered it to a lady standing at the stop across the road. She gave me a massive startled look and sort of muttered a surprised thanks, it made me laugh that people are so surprised at kindness from strangers.
If you get a voucher for BOGOF coffee or similar, and no-one else wants them, maybe get both and give one to a homeless person? Sure they'd appreciate if no-one else would!
I know a few times when I've been working on checkouts and people have brought through one item that's BOGOF or something, if you mention it to them a lot of them would say 'it doesn't matter'. But it's free! Why wouldn't you want it?! :eek:D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0 -
I agree with those who say that a lot of people are too embarrassed, or think that it's a sign that you're too poor to pay full price!!! II see it all the time too and it appals me. 'll never forget reading a post on this very site about teenagers throwing small change on the ground or a bin (can't remember which)! What a shame.
Those people will never have any money if they carry on like that - you really do have to look after the pennies. I'm a proud voucher user and my signature shows how much money I have saved over the last few years so I am by no means skint. And it's all thanks to MSE!!! :T:money:My mother always told me it was the "really rich folks" who were stingiest with spending their money - and that was why they had money in the first place.
So when I use a voucher I'm just emulating the "really rich folks ":rotfl:
This is dead true. Everyone I know who's well off is also very frugal - it's not rocket science! Whereas I know some people who flash the cash at every opportunity and owe money on credit cards - very sad.I was in Tesco last night and the lady behind me in the queue was buying some clothes. There is a 25% off offer on at the moment with a voucher, and the assistant on the check-out went out of her way to get the lady the appropriate voucher to same her a tidy amount.
Although marks down for an offer on bottles of orange squash: item price 99p, or 2 for £2.
And you can guarantee that plenty of people will fall for it!!!MSE_Martin wrote: »I was wonderfing if someone would pick up my lack of use of that. I had it printed ready to go but had one of thos periods where there isn't a second to do anything and got there a day too late
Tut Martin, D minus for effort! :rotfl: I do love those free-to-print vouchers and got a few bargains in Gap with them. Hope there are more to come! Once I had loads of brantano £10 off £30 spend from giving in old shoes and I was waiting by the till for my boyfriend and brother to pick some shoes (to use with the vouchers) and the man paying had to pay £70, I overhead this and just offered him a voucher, after a few confused moments he took it, the lady then said "£60 please!" and he realised what had happened, and after he actually gave me £5 and said thank you, lets split the saving! I really wasn't expecting it but I thought that that was so nice and I just liked helping someone out too!0

Went into the local farm shop for Frontline flea stuff for cat and the assistant picked up a Frontline promo scratch card, did it for me (pick the right answer) and took a pound off before I'd even realised what was happening. So £1 off Frontline if you "scratch so your pet doesn't have to".
Off to France twice this year - free chunnel on Tesco vouchers!0 -
To be fair the sign suggests that there is 25% off without any condition. The bit with the voucher must be "hidden" in the smaller print. So most people might think that there is already 25% off when they see the price on the label or think that the 25% will be taken off at the till automatically. It might be a clever marketing trick.
I'm always wary when I see these xx% off signs. xx% off an overpriced item is still expensive...0 -
The Gap in Westfield also mark-up items. I saw a lovely pair of shoes for £40 at their flagship store yet Westfield were selling the same pair for £55.Thanks MSE!!0
