Pick & Mix - No Scales

Options
They sell them by the weight but it does annoy me that some places have no scales so you can't weigh as you go rather than get a massive shock at the checkout. Have you seen anyone say "oh l will have to put some back".

Our local tesco has added a Pick & Mix area at the end of an aisle near the checkouts, the sweets are not covered, within reach of anyone who wants to handle, sneeze...yukkkk guess where l will not be buying my pick & mix from.
I did noticed that they charging different prices for Large and X Large Cups which you fill with sweets still an expensive way if you ask me.

I don't use Pick and Mix, help yourself salad etc. Some people don't know the meaning of washing your hands so I don't take the chance

I don't think I have ever come across scales at any pick & mix place. Some places charge by the cup so it doesn't matter about weight, just whatever you can fit in the cup.

Maybe the reason why theres no scales is because of the cups so the price is based on the size of the cup as suggested by The One Who. Who on earth uses pick and mix these especially with peoples hygene standards lower than your own, ive not used pick an mix for years, if i want loose sweets i get them from a market where they use glooves and scoops. Ive witnessed some horror stories where the kids are let loose and they handle the sweets and put them back when the parent tells them off.

Wilkinsons use scales for Pick n Mix but I think that system is open to abuse, some people just print the label and add more into the bag, cheeky sods :D

I must say, they do the same in Thorntons. I couldn't believe my luck, I got a bag, filled it, went to pay, and was told that I could get much more in a cup and would be cheaper. So I got to have the pleasure of clogging my arteries with another 100g and paid less! :D
    Best Regards

Cant you use the scale in the fruit and veg isle in Tesco ?
  • why would you buy pick and mix anyway? The Tesco that I work at has a pick and mix stand, and the amount of times I have seen people putting their hands in, kids putting fingers in mouths and then back into the pots, biting off a piece and then putting it back...no siree!

why dont you buy the packs of sweets that are with the rest of the confectionary (3 for £1) at least no boggies or toilet hands in them!

I wouldn't trust your bog standard tescos or (sadly departed) Woolly's pick 'n mix selection, but if you're in a smaller, private shop, you might be ok. Theres a really good sweet shop in brighton I used to go to that does fantastic pick 'n mix with a fairly scrupulous policy on hygiene - plastic bins, scoops and no hands allowed. MMMmm flying saucers :)
